If he wakes up crying then check his diaper and change him if he's wet. Then hold him on your chest with his head resting on your shoulder. Pat his little back lightly and maybe even hum a song. He probably has gas and just needs to burp. He'll fall back to sleep when his tummy doesn't hurt and holding him against you will calm him down.
Good luck.

Babies wake up for numerous reasons. Sometimes they are hungry, but enought milk should keep him satisfied assuming he had enough supper. Try rocking and singing to him. The key is not to stir him up. In other words, if he gets up again, give him a quick bath, change his diapers, put on clean jammies. Do it all very quietly and calmly. Don't be frustrated or worried.

Babies get gassy like adults. They get constipated, too. His tummy could be giving him some discomfort.

Babies get thirsty too. Make sure he doesn't need a drink of water. Have you ever drank a lot of milk and then wanted water? Babies do get thirsty for water.

Find a quiet place to sit with him. Spread a blanket on the floor. Don't get out any toys, instead just quietly sit with him.
Play soft music.

Babies love to be comforted. Make him comfortable as possible and he should calm down and fall asleep.

Go & give him a pat, sing a little song then tell him it's time to go to sleep & leave the room. If he cries for more than 10-15 minutes go back in & continue the routine & keep doing this until he falls asleep. If he is used to sleeping in his parent's bed then you might be better off putting him next to you on the lounge until he falls asleep then carry him into bed. Best of luck.

The child may be unfamiliar with the surroundings. Kids love routine, and this may be out of his routine. Pick the child up, softly make a shhh sound. Lay him down. You may have to do this several times. He will get the idea eventually. The first night is usually the rough one. It gets better after. I am so sorry that you can't just explain the deal to him and tell him to get over it. With a little patience you will get though it.

A baby that age will usually stay awake for a few hours at a time so don't keep on trying to put him to sleep. Don't give the baby his bottle every time he wakes up. Check his diaper, burp him, rock him, sing/talk to him, or let him play for awhile.

One thing that used to comfort my son alot when he was that age was to sit down holding him against my chest and facing me, and straddling his legs around me so that I could rock him a bit more. I used to have some trouble with him waking up and no matter how much I would rock him and make sure he wasn't hungry or wet, nothing would help until my mother visited once and did that to him.

with my son he would sleep on his belly and if i saw him start to stir then i would softly place my hand on his bum and wiggle it ever so softly it seemed to lull him back to sleep although he may have been a little younger but worse comes to worse you carry him and pace the house bouncing up and down a little or sit in a rocking chair or a spinny computer chair and just keep a constant motion while patting or rubbing his but or back

and don;t worry worse comes to worse he wakes up and you play with him it he really doesn't want to go back to sleep

This baby is one of those that cannot bear to be separated
from his mother. I doubt you can calm him. I would call your
sister and tell her to come get him because he feels abandoned
by the most important person in his life. He may be too young
yet to leave with a sitter.
