My cat looks very pregnant and is 1 year and 2 weeks old. She is not spayed and I have a male cat who is not neutered. I would love for her to have kittens but I only want 1 litter of kittens and plan to spay her afterwards. Her ribcage sticks out, and her abdomen is swollen. Her nipples are much longer and pink and are missing fur around them. She's losing fur like crazy on her belly. I have not been giving her any treats and can food, so I don't think the weight gain is from her being overweight. She's been sleeping most of the time through out the day and it's very unusual for her because she loves to keep active. I'm pretty sure she's pregnant, but how can I tell for sure besides going to the vet? What are labor signs also? Is it possible for cats to have more than 8 kittens and what is the largest litter a cat has had? Thanks for your input. All postings critiquing me about breeding my Erin will be reported. Have a good day.

yeah your kitty's very much pregnant, make her up a large basket with some old towels and just wait, I wouldn't bother with a vet bill. Mlkirchgessner is right usually about 3-5 babies per litter, if you look at your mommy cat USUALLY the number of nipples she has is the biggest litter she will have. When your mother cat is nursing it's a good idea to feed her extra food and a little kitten chow instead of regular cat chow so her milk can be produced quicker. Enjoy your babies and please do keep us updated. Don't handle your baby kittens until their eyes are open so that they don't infect but when you do go to handle the babies make sure you love on the mother a little too so she knows who you are and trusts you.

That is funny, because I too think that mine is pregnant I have been doing a lot of research on this. At first I thought she was pregnant but now I'm certain. Your cat defiantly sounds like she is pregnant, a cats reproduction system kicks in when it is very young (around 4-10 months old), and goes in heat every 3 weeks until she gets pregnant. When cats mate they are ex-streamely loud, it only lasts about 5-10 minutes, if you know when she was in heat last, or herd something that sounded like a cat fight then you should take that date and than add 63 days (9 weeks) and that's her due date. Also you said that you only wanted her to have one litter, so you should watch her, because they can get pregnant again up to 47 hours after giving birth. About two days before she gives birth she should be giving off a milky discharge from her nipples. I don't now if you know how handle the whole giving birth situation, but just in case you don't i found this site to be VERY useful "http://cats.about.com/cs/pregnancybirth/a/pregnancybirth.htm"
I hope that this information was useful to you and i hope that the birth of the kittens goes well. If the site that i provided you doesn't satisfy you try doing a google search for "cats in labor"
or "pregnant cats" Wikipedia is also ex-streamly helpful.

She sounds pregnant. If you want to be fully sure and if she is a fairly nice cat, you can just gently press around where they would be. If the skin seems to be tight and is bulging out (like you have mentioned) then she is very well pregnant. I didn't notice specific signs of labor when our cat had her kittens, but I know that we couldn't find her for a day or two and then we heard little meows coming from my mother's closet.

She sounds pregnant to me... If not I would consider going to visit an animal shelter in your area and see for yourself how many homeless cats are out there before breeding her. I worked at one for 2 yrs and we had to euthanize cats and kittens on a daily basis. Adding more will just make the overpopulation problem worse.

She is pregnant
or has a large tumor.

The only real reason to see a vet, in my opinion, would be to determine the approximate date of the happy event.

I wouldn't dare criticize you and I'm simply terrified of being reported. You sound like that A** maybe you should change your attitude or your kittens might run away from home. Nasty, you are. I like cats, not some humans.
Report me....I live for that.
