Please ignore Colt going out of business. Currently they don't make enough guns to satisfy the market's demand. These were rumors that went around couple years back. Colt is currently more stable than it has been in the last 10-15 years. Colt split up into companies. One half only produces for the Military/law enforcement and the other is commercial. I thought these Colt going out of business rumors had died two years ago. Take it as bad advice.

With that said, you won't regret it. It seems that you got your mind set on a Colt. You're a good man :) I will never recommend a Kimber. Springfields are good pistols. I have two of them with zero malfunctions after 2,000 rounds fired. You wont go wrong with Springfield, but you already have your mind set on a Colt. :)Try these sites, you will find all you're looking for.

I'm assuming that you are talking about purchasing a 1911 in .45ACP?

There are untold numbers of producers of this particular firearm. I currently have 4, 1911 format pistols and may soon purchase another one. But you need to take some things into consideration. First, the manual of arms of the 1911 is different than other pistols and unless you are committed to putting in the range time and getting adequate instruction, I wouldn't recommend one. Yet if you will get proper instruction and will spend the time and money to send several thousand rounds downrange, the 1911 is an excellent choice of pistol.

I have two Para P-16 pistols which are in .40S&W and are my compitition pistols. I also have a P-13 in .45ACP which is one of my CCW pistols and I recently purchased a Springfield Micro 1911 as a smaller CCW pistol. Yet realize that I shoot around 4,000 rounds a year out of that type of pistol.

Good luck.

Ok...what the question...go to a gun store and buy it...But instead of colt how about Kimber or springfield...Springfield is the best for the money and Kimber is all premium parts. Colt are on the way out and wont be in business much longer so the value will be up but no warrenty

Want a 1911 with a few bells and whistles, ambidextrous safety, and guaranteed for the life of the firearm, not just the ownership? Taurus.

About two years ago my husband shot himself in the hand with a Colt 1911. The sear(sp) failed and it discharged in his left hand, leaving quite a hole... then a core bond +P semi-jacketed hollow point made it's way towards me, and then nearly missing my left side.

It didn't kill him... so I wouldnt waste my money.
