In Japanese, it's actually "Gojira" - but it translates into English as Godzilla.

In all probability, it's a phonetic mispronunciation of the name due to the primitive translations of the 1950's.

And for the record, Godzilla- Gojira- is a representation of the U.S. - Gojira was created after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and was a metophor for nuclear destruction.

I think they named him that because people think he is as strong as a god or something. They should have name him Colosiszilla in stead of Godzilla.

It doesn't actually mean that. "Godzilla" is just a sort of imaginary name someone invented for the monster in the movie.
