Parquetry block flooring?

It is traditionally solid timber flooring laid up in a matchstick format to form a design or pattern. Sometimes it uses different species of timber to highlight the pattern, othertimes the same species is used throughout. Typical block sizes are about 4 inches x 1/2 inch up to about 12 inches x 1 inch... but there are no established rules. It is laid in place as individual blocks, glued down, sanded off and polished.

Modern parquetry flooring is mass produced. The individual blocks are prepared in the factory and are laid to form tiles about 1 foot x 1 foot, using a ply base. These tiles are then laid, glued down, sanded and polished.

More recently, you can get pre-finished parquetry timber floor tiles (glued to a ply base) ... these you just lay onto a level underlay, and perhaps glue into place.

Parquet flooring is when you take small, short strips of wood, form them into a square and lay them like tile.
