Latest news reports rodent poison is the culprit. Is it possible this is in dog biscuits and cat kibble produced by the same companies that are on recall list? I need 100% positive, not speculation.

My reason for asking is I have dog biscuits and dry cat food made by recalled lines and I store them in the pantry with our "people" food. Also, just because it is manufactured at a different plant, doesn't it go to a warehouse and sit side-by-side with all products from that company? Sorry for the paranoia, but some of my family members have had odd health ailments in the past year. I guess it will all unravel as the investigation digs deeper.

I would not trust or use any of the brands that were named...dry,can or pouch. I feed my dogs Natural Balance...a little more expensive but worth it and safe. You could also make your own food by boiling chicken, rice and veggies. There are a lot of websites with homemade recipies for dog food.

No one can be 100% positive about anything, in all actuality. I will not be feeding my pets any product produced or distributed by that company ever.
We do have to trust in the fact that most of the time, at least 99.99% of the time all products that we are purchasing for ourselves and our families and pets are safe.
We cannot be 100% positive that the reasons for the rat poisoning getting into the food being given to us are the honest truth either. We are dealing with the media here, after all. We all know how convoluted the news can be depending on the day, the weather, the source...... whatever.
Some media sources are reporting that there was "only" a few poisoning related animal deaths; and other sources are reporting hundreds of deaths.
I choose to err toward the higher numbers as I personally know of several cats and two dogs who have been ill or have had to been put to sleep, and I am only one person in the vast world.
Good luck and have a good night.

I know what you mean. This whole thing scares the heck out of me. If I had only a few cats and dogs, I would feed them hamburger and rice. But I don't think I could afford it and have the time, when I have 10 cats and 2 dogs. I cant think of a way that we can get a100% guarantee. I guess maybe the best thing to do if you have time and can afford it is, make home made, or maybe only buy a brand of dry that is not produced by the same companies on the recall list.

100% positive? you won't get it...BUT go to that manufacturers site...either the one that is doing the recalls or the one on the dry kibble that you use and see if "your stuff" is made there..or where it is made...it is my understanding that this particular place only manufacters the canned and pouch food not the dry kibble...
Go to the site that has been posted all over the web and see...you are the one that needs to be 100% sure...but if you want that? you should grow your own wheat, cow and all other ingredients and then make the food yourself...do not buy packaged food..flout or meat from any where..because there is not a 100% sure thing out there!
People need to stop with the paranoia...IMO

Here is a list of the Top Ten Dry Dog Food recommend by Whole Dog Journal.

I would pick one that uses no grains to be on the safe side. Until you find a good high quality food you could feed your dog home cooked food.
I used to make my dogs own food before going to California Natural. This is what I cooked for my dog. One batch to last a week. Cooked chicken (remove all bones carefully) or cooked beef both with fat removed, small amount of cooked brown rice, and cooked vegtables (sweet potato, carrot, broccoli, or spinach). My dog ate nothing but my homemade food for about 6 months and did very well on it. You could also add a little unflavored yogurt and a hard boiled egg and a few slices of cooked apple. I also gave her vitamin supplements. Don't feed onions, onion powder, grapes, apple seed.

A complete list of the recalled products along with product codes, descriptions and production dates was posted online by Menu Foods and is available at http://tinyurl.com/2pn6mm. The company also designated two phone numbers that pet owners could call for information: (866) 463-6738 and (866) 895-2708.

If you want to be 100% positive, you probably need to buy grain-free pet food. There are naturally occurring toxins on grains as well as this rat poison situation. It happens when the grains get moldy. There have been recalls in the past because of those naturally occurring toxins. I don't mean to add to your anxiety, but that's the truth. You can't be 100% sure about pet food containing grains.

The only 100% positive thing I know of is if your pregnant or not. There are no gray area's in that one.
So to answer your question there is no 100% way to know to absolutely sure that the dry food is safe also.
But I am an optimists rather than pessimist.
I like to see the sun rather than start to yell the sky is falling.
Thats just my opinion

From what I've read, the company hasn't been able to figure out why the "wet" foods have caused the kidney failure, so the answer is no, their is no way to know and there is never a 100% positive on something like this.

Menufoods only makes wet foods pretty much for every single dog food company in North America, they do not make dry dry or biscuits
