On January 24th I had a composite filling placed on the back of tooth #7 it had been aching and I was having prickly sensations in it since then. I had been back to the dentist twice since it was filled complaining about this tooth. I went back in on wednesday again and my dentist discovered that I had a high filling and a few specks of composite on the opposite side of the tooth the filling was placed on. He polished it down, adjusted my bite and it feels much better now but this tooth is still very sore. How long can I expect for this to continue? Will it get better? Could there have been permenant damage because this went on for almost two months? Or will I be alright? How long should I give this tooth to recover before I go back to my dentist?

Even after 2 months of that tooth being banged around, chances are good that it'll be ok. The ligament supporting the tooth is a little traumatized and needs some time to recover. As a result, it may take a couple of weeks for the tooth to tighten back up and feel completely "normal" again. But you should feel a lot better in really soon. Give it 7-10 days.

If, after that time, it's still really bothering you, call your dentist again.

There are factors to considered in your case that made it sore : 1.depend on the size of the cavity (larger cavity make it more prone to sensitivity specially after the filling). 2. trauma due to the overfilling of composite (it takes a while to recover and recovery depend upon individual). The only advise that i can give you if observe for a few months, meanwhile don't consume too cold or too hot substances and temporarily don't used your front teeth to incise food , cut the food into small pieces before eating to minimized the trauma and giving it time to heal. If the pain or sore become more severe , you may need to go back to your doctor for further tx like root canal therapy cause there is disturbance to the pulp of the teeth that causing it to be that painful. Hope this information can help you

take what ever you take for a headache and you will notice it feels better every day. I think 2-3 days will make the sore go away. No permanent damage will occur. Some times fillings take three to six months to calm down to cold things Hang in there it is actually pretty common. It happens because when you have been open and your numb, you bite differently and he had no marks telling him it was high. Every one in awhile a person has a dual bite and never bites the same way twice.

anytime you drill on a tooth it can die. it can sometimes take several months for a nerve to calm down, though, so just baby it and hope for the best. don't do things to irritate the nerve, no hot or cold, and try not to chew with it. get a night guard from the dentist or from wal*mart pharmacy. if it gets to hurting more, you willneed to go back to the dentist. go to a biologic dentist.
