I believe it was instantaneous because she didnt get the chance to turn back around. I'm also believing because its God, punishment would be quick and efficient. As for the the ding sound? Maybe more of a whoosh, like a wind passing or something. That's more God-like. Or maybe even a flash of lightining??

The idea of 'turning into' a 'pillar of salt' is intriguing. It has been postulated and pontificated about for a couple of millennia, now. There is an interesting parallel in that flash burning something leaves ash which consists mainly of chemical salts like chlorides, sulphates, carbonates and the like. I wonder what might have caused a flash like that way back then?

It was instant because a few minutes there were not witnesses left to tell the story because they were fleeing for their lives.(Lot and his two daughters)
She disobeyed God and was instantly turned into a pillar of salt.

Genesis 19:26 - But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

Massive dehydration! It is quite something though, considering salt was worth quite a bit then. Imagine your wife turning into a pillar of gold? How long do you think she would last in the place she was standing??

Well God did it, but I wonder why he chose a pillar of salt. I don't know, as Lot and his daughters didn't look back. I would say it was instant.

god told the family not to look back as the city was dystroyed. but the wife disobayed and looked back as the city burned so therefore she was turned into a pillar of salt as punishment.

If you are not just being sick...you should know the answer.

God can do anything and we don't have to understand how it was done.

I am proof...this last week I have no idea how God managed to help me out of the mess I was in but He did. I don't have to understand it, just believe it.

I am in awe!!! I just keep praying & it works.

I'm more wondering how her cells just magically turned into salt crystals.

Awful lot of thought for a biblical act of god that probably never actually happened, but it seemed more like something that would have happened immediately.

We will never really know. Believe God can do any thing. I believe and do not care about the thumbs down.
