My two favorite magazines are by the same group - Cook's Illustrated, and Cook's Country. Both have similar styles - no advertisements, recipes that describe the experiments they went through to come up with the recipe, and reviews of products, both tools and ingredients. Cook's Country is newer, a larger format, and in color. It's more user friendly, and incorporates reader recipes, stories, and requests. Cook's Illustrated is in black and white with a lot of line drawings and fewer photos. It's a little more serious, and goes into greater detail about how they arrived at the recipe.

Stay away from Gourmet and Bon Appetit, unless you like spending 4 hours preparing an obscure meal every night. While magazines such as Southern Living are nice, the recipes are repetitive. Martha Stewart does nothing for me, but her Everyday Food Magazine is pretty good. My personal favorite is Cooking Light. Not only is the food healthy, but it uses recognizable ingredients, and the food is healthy because of the ingredient choices/preparation, not because everything is artificially fat free or the portion size is microscopic. Enjoy!

Food & Wine is my favorite!
Taste of Home has something for everyone and the recipes are usually simple to make.
Kraft Food & Family recipe magazine also easy and it's free! http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/FoodandFamily/

I enjoy my subscriptions to Taste of Home and Simple and Delicious. Both have tons of great recipes. Taste of Home is more of a do it all from scratch kind of mag. and Simple and Delicious is a fast and easy to make recipe kind of magazine.

***my pic would be "country woman" magazine. it's not JUST recipes, but the ones they have are all tried tested and true. they're sent in by real women, and then tested by the staff there, and they're REALLY GOOD RECIPES! Some are handed down from generation to generation, others are newly created, but they're all these women's best recipes and it seriously shows.

Slam64 is right----the last Simple & Delicious mag I got, I tried 6 recipes so far & 5 were excellent (the other one was meant for a skillet & I baked it--my own fault).
I'm making then 7th tonight.
Their web site is www.bestsimplerecipes.com
Look for Creamy Macaroni & Cheese--it's the best I have ever tasted!!!!

Every Day with Rachael Ray-her April issue has 147 really really awesome recipes in it. Have you heard of a BP & J french toast? How come no one has thought of that?
Did I mention I am a big RR fan?
