if your hair is dark brown don't get blond highlights. it look trashy. get a lighter brown or dark dark blonde. i repeat don't get platinum blond high lights. and yes go to a professional. i would suggest you get them done t-weave style. they look better and more natural. they use foils and the weird rubber helmet thing. but have fun and make sure you tell the colorist that it's your first time. and she'll show you all the choices you have.

At a salon they can take you all the way from brown to platinum blond and any color in between. A good colorist will have ideas for you and swatches of hair color to show you before you get started. I have had every type of highlight on earth and really prefer foils. Best of luck to you, it's going to be fun!

It's too hard to give an answer without looking at you. Just go to a salon and talk to the stylist about what you want and what they think is good for you. And I mean it when I say go to a salon - if you're hair was blond, you could get away with dying it another color at home, but since yours is dark brown, it'll be harder to lighten it if that's what you think you want.

Definately blonde highlights. I have a chunk in the front of my hair with 2 small ones on either side of my part farther back and it looks awesome. A word of advice - get it done professionally, doing foils yourself doesn't work, I tried. Good luck!

If you've never dyed it before, I reccommend going to a professional; you don't want to ruin your hair or have it turn orange.
That said, an ash blonde or auburn highlight would be pretty. It's hard to say without a picture, but either go redder (like I did) or blonder (like I did in high school)...

i won't be able to inform you that on account which you will possibly be able to desire to take the colour of your pores and skin tone into attention. the very ultimate coloration is extra often than not some ranges lighter than your organic, and the comparable tone. if your hair is an ashy brown, flow with an ashy spotlight. if your organic coloration has a golden hue, flow with a golden hightlight. Your hairdresser can assist you to artwork out what is going to look ultimate on you.
