It should be safe provided you take a few precautionary measures:
1. Explain to her (if she is old enough to understand) that the chair is not a toy and is off limits.
2. Be sure that there is nothing around the chair that she could land on and get hurt if she did climb and fall. For example: tables, lamps, sharp corners on anything...
3. Avoid a rocking chair. The hinges and metallic parts underneath are pinch zones for small fingers. Also, she could get stuck between the floor and the bottom of the rocker should the chair be forced forward by any weight---say if something heavy fell on the chair while she was "playing" under it.
3. Be sure that the chair has nothing that can come off and cause a choking hazard, such as screws, bolts or staples.
4. Be sure that the carpeting is thick and padded or that some type of rug is around it to cushion any potential falls.
5. Always use your best judgment. This answer is just my opinion. If you don't feel comfortable placing a chair in the room, don't do it. Your gut feelings are usually right. If you feel she may get harmed, make your reading corner in another room that the two of you can get cozy in.

It all depends on the child. I could have put a jungle gym into my oldest daughter's room and it wouldn't have made any difference--she was always careful of herself.
I had to remove my youngest daughter's CRIB at 7 months, because I found her balancing on the upper rim of the side like it was a horsey (4 feet off the ground). I also needed to vault my older daughters bed, because the younger one had climbed into her window (at 8 months) using the old one's toy box, and was leaning against the rusty old screen (which just happened to be 4 floors above a tarred parking lot).
Like I said, it all depends on the kid.

My son is an active child and when he was a baby he climbed everything. I was able to keep a glider rocking chair in his room all through the baby and toddler years. We ran out of space when he got his big boy bed. No problem. Kids don't break too easily.
Have fun,
Jen

Do not put a chair in your childs bedroom . You will be sorry! It would be like giving him a ladder to climb. Make your reading time right on the bed beside each other all snuggly.

I wouldn't do it, cuz she could climb on it and fall off. Why don't you try getting a bean bag chair. Thats cozy, and if she gets up and plays on it, it's completely safe. You could even get 2, one for you and a little one for her.

No, that is not a good idea, once they learn how to climb they will try to climb up on anything they can get there hands on.
