I have brown doors and I went with caramel cream or toffee cream it has a yellowy tint but is deeper than a magnolia for such a heavy traffic area

The typical answer would be white, but I don't think that brightens it, it just makes it dull. What you can do is paint wide vertical stripes floor to ceiling in two shade of light tan. Use one with an eggshell finish and the other flat. The contrast in sheens and the vertical lines will make the hall not seem as long. Also, the eggshell finish has a slightly glossy look that will reflect any light that's there very well.

Balsam Beige from walmart in a satin finish with a choice of Kilz, Dutch Boy , or Colorplace. Keep ceilings white.
Any light tans, carmels, or beiges. I try to stay away from colors that are too dark or too bright. Lighter colors go with everything. Try to repaint the doors to a lighter, more oak color. Of course, lighter colors always make a room look bigger right away.

This is a tough question. How narrow is narrow? Beige carpet is best off set, in my opinion, with a real light color. If no objections, try just plain white. Use some Mirrors if possible, and possibly change light fixture to give more light! Colorful pictures help. I'm not an expert, but I hope if this bring some ideas. possibly someone else with same situation can give you more ideas. Good Luck

Keep the ceiling white. Paint walls and by skirting I assume you mean the woodwork the same color. Anything light would open up the narrow look. I'd choose a nice soft ivory.

I have the same problem. My hallway was magnolia (walls, ceiling and woodwork), which was really horrible. Now my ceiling and woodwork is white and the walls a nice shade of yellow ( the same shade that appears over the questions). It is so much nicer.

White with a hint of lemony/lime tint added so it gives off a warm glow, not too much or the paint will no longer be white.
You can also try the new paints that have marble in them, this attracts reflective light & gives the impression of more light & space.
Speak to a paint technician in a large hardware store, they can explain what adding 1 measure of tint can do to improve a stark white.
As for the brown frames... get rid of it immediately!!!! Brown absorbs light as it has a large quantity of black tint.
Again, white frames look fresh & further expand the hall.
