I broke my tooth eating one of those chocolate mini eggs. The dentist said I need a root canal and a crown (with crown lenghthening). This will cost me $2500.00. I need two other crowns and a couple of fillings replaced. Should I pull the $2500.00 tooth (in the back) and get the rest fixed. Or should I get on a payment plan and fix them all? Keep in mind that I just dished out $20,000 (literally) for my sons eye surgery. For anyone with old fillings - get them replaced. The dentist said this is my whole problem. Apparently, fillings don't last a life time.

I've worked in the field 30 yrs, and pulling it will only cost more later as the teeth above and next to the empty space collapse or super erupt. If you trust this DDS go on a payment plan, otherwise get a second opinion. Old silver (amalgam) fillings do not last a life time, they get leaky and new bacteria gets in there and causes new decay. They should only last 10- 15 yrs., so if you had them done as a child you are over do. Slowly replace them with new composite, or ceramic cast type fillings. Your DDS was right, I've seen it hundreds of times!

Don't pull your tooth on your own..this will cause more pain to you. You could alway have the dentist pull it, I know that is way cheaper than getting a root canal and crown done to a tooth. Just remember that your teeth are very important and you need them as long as you can keep them. Keeping up with your teeth is important due to that fact that poor teeth health can cause other health problems. Spending the money to get them fixed is a good thing, you are not in any way wasting money. Good luck!

Talk to several different dentists before paying that much money for a root canal.

A person can live without a molar. You can pull it if it fits your finacial budget and you have all the others. I a firm believer in saving teeth but I also know you only so much money

MY HUBBY SAID HE WILL PULL ALL YOUR TEETH FOR $100.00 HE IS A MOTORCYCLE MECHANIC... HE IS GIVING YOU A DISCOUNT DUE TO YOUR RECENT MISFORTUNE...
only kidding and not a funny matter... go get a second opinion, im 40= IVE BEEN WHERE YOU ARE AT, AND BECAUSE I HAVE PERIODONTAL DISEASE(BONE LOSS ) IVE DECIDED ALONG WITH MY DENTIST THE BEST THING TO DO IS DENTURES, AND THAT WAS NOT THE BEST EITHER,,, IMPLANTS WERE OUT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO BONE TO PUT THEM IN... VENEERES ARE AN OPTION, AS LONG AS THE TEETH STAY IN... GOOD LUCK, AND I FEEL FOR YOU...

no, i don't think you should pull the tooth. i know where your coming from i have had about 3,000 in dental expense myself with crowns and root canals. you don't want to lose your teeth. i think you should do whatever to keep a pretty smile.

You can always go somewhere else just to get a second opinion. It really depends on you, and what you would be comfortable doing. I would seriously consider the second opinion though. Good luck!

I would recommend you talk to a dentist for another opinion. My personal recommendation is to keep your teeth as long as you can!

Pull it and put it under your pillow. Attach some sort of device to warn you when he picks it up. Then when you catch him, threaten him and take all the money that he has
