I would like to know if there is an Internet site that teaches people what each of the different knives and forks does in a formal western dinner. I've been to a wedding party and wasn't sure I used the forks as they were supposed to. Maybe I used the salad fork on desert (not really, just an example).

I am pretty sure there is a site dedicate to such topic but I don't even know what to search for. Can anybody help me out? Thanks

There is definitely a proper use of tableware however almost no one really knows.
If you're worried about what those who can see you think, watch the people around you and follow their lead. I guess if you do what they do then they'll think you're correct and you're off the hook.
Raquel12 also has the common answer. Use the service from the outside in. Food is served in a certain order and the tableware is set in the order the service will be delivered to the table.
Of course you could find it on the internet by typing something like table ettiquette and checking out the sites. here's one to try. http://www.westernsilver.com/place_settings.html but really there are many. My advice is relax... no one is watching. Enjoy the meal and if you must (ask the waiter and tip him/her well).

I'm sure you could do a search and find out on the internet, but the general rule is to work from the outside to the inside. The outermost fork is for whatever comes first (salad, appetizer - at a formal dinner, it's probably pre-determined and will be set up properly). The spoon at the top of your plate is probably for dessert. If you get soup or steak, the waiter will bring you the proper spoon or knife. And if you mess up, no one's noticing :)
