My girlfreind might get a truck for me, financed in her name. I think i am covered under her insurance if i drive it, but can i insure the truck in my name to continue my SR-22 proof of financial responsibility even though the loan has nothing to do with me?

Are you and your girlfriend cohabitating? If not, and the vehicle is living at your house, the insurance and registration have to be in your name, she can still be the legal owner. If you are living together, it can be registered in her name, and you can be listed as a driver on her insurance. If she is financing it, and you are not living together, talk to the insurance people before you do anything. If you make a mistake, you could end up with a denied claim. Good luck.

Hohoho, you get in a collision in that truck and your girlfriend could face serious consequences for her actions, that's not even considering high risk. Should you continue sr-22 coverage in addition to your girlfriend's insurance it might be ok, but unless you have done this, I would check with the Insco's to be sure and if you already did that and they said it was ok then I am out of line and sorry in advance, but I thought I'd mention it.
But yes, you can insure the truck under your name and you probably should do so, however, you will need to maintain Full coverage in order to satisfy the bank's loan requirements and you may wish to check with them as well, just so the bases are covered.

The SR-22 does not insure the vehicle. It insures the person driving for liability coverage only. Your g/f will have to keep comp and collision coverage on the truck while she is making payments. If you are going to drive the truck she will need to put you on her insurance as an additional driver.

I would suggest adding yourself to her policy as an additional driver, and getting the sr22 filing on her policy, that way you arent paying for insurance twice. That would be the safest way to do it. If the company wont add you as a driver - shop it around- other companies WILL do that for you. you may also be able to add your girlfreind and the new car onto your policy. There are plenty of ways to work this one
