Is there any health condition that a human gets that are contagious to dogs? Common cold, flu, stomach virus, aids? I am not asking for any particular reason. A few us were just sitting around talking and someone coughed and then the dog coughed. So we just got to wondering if any of the above are contagious from human to dog. Thanks!!

viruses are species specific and won't transfer. a few bacterial infections may transfer but for the most common things you don't need to worry.

Yes humans can transmit a virus to a pet. My cat was sick and the vet asked if anyone had been sick in the house. I told him that I had the flu the week before and he said that she had caught it from me.

i am not sure of the specific diseases that are transmibbable from humans to animals and vice versa, but I do know that the process is called zoonosis, and there are about 150 pathogens that can be spread back and forth.

My vet said no, but my dog got a sore throat after my husband had one. So it is really hard to say if they can or not. Even though my vet said no it can't happen I think they can lol.

I'm not sure, but I think they can. My guinea pig, Rodney, once cought my cold, so I'm asuming they can. Sorry, I don't know how to spell "asuming" that well! I'm happy to help any (if I did!)

nope, we are 2 different species and our bodies react differently to different things. dogs can pas on things such as ticks and flea's though.
