To syphon, the outlet of the pipe must be lower than the inlet. so unless you have a basement that is higher than outside the house (unusual), the syphon idea is NOT going to work.
Buy a pump from Argos (£30 or less) OR use a drill-pump OR hire a pump for the day from a tool-hire firm.

ps: If you can get the outlet of the hose LOWER than the inlet, then you make a syphon work by filling the tube with water and then keeping the "suction" end under water and the outlet end BELOW the level of the input.
If you have a friend to help it is easier. you block one end of the pipe with something easily removed (cork/thumb etc), then fill other end. Block other end of pipe too and get one end in water to drain, and the other LOWER still outside. then both remove thumbs!
Syphone will work until water runs out OR the outlet is no longer lower than the water.

Call your local hardware store to see if they have a rental unit. I think that many of the ACE Hardware stores now rent things out, you need to find a sump pump.

you need to call around and get a water pump; they sell them at walmart last i knew, not too expensive for a small one. i use mine to syphon water out of the pond to put in the pool in the summer.

get a shopvac if you have one or sump pump, ne thing like that, i dont know if u will be able to syphon it though. it could work if u get enough suction
