There are more sheets in your mattress, pillow and sheets after one night of sleeping on them than are in an embryo when it is aborted? You are killing a "baby" every time you have a period, or a wet dream? The ancient Greeks had similar discussion that were settled with Hippocrates' argment that preserving the life, and the ability of the mother to be a good mother to any extant children and carry a healthy baby later was worth more to society and humanity than the life of one human embryo which lacks the ability to sustain life on its own. Laws, rules, these are made to ensure the good of society as a whole, while sometimes detrimental or annoying to an individual person. Ultimately, our leaders and government must tackle the issue as a society, not from the point of view of one member. When you argue, do you argue from the point of view of a person, or the society? Does that change your view?

No one is gonna care. Most people here are stuck on their own views and refuse to change. I'm pro-choice and I've had an abortion, and that's my view. No one will change it for me, just like i doubt people who are pro-life will change theirs.

I have seen abortion destroy my sisters life and two of my friends lives. They never quite get over the guilt. So I guess that my argument is that it not only takes away the life of the child but also the mother. What I do not agree with is using abortion as a kind of birth control. I am sorry but if you are old enough to have sex than you are old enough to be on birth control. It has become to casual of an option which leaves young girls going into the decision too lightly and then living with the guilt for decades. And yes-I am a Christian and so I do believe that God will forgive you. Unfortunately, sometimes people are unwilling to forgive themselves. So in that case you end up with two lives destroyed. And NO-- an unfertilised egg that you shed during your period is not a baby/embryo. You have your period because the egg was not fertilised and therefore your body knows that there is no baby and so it can shed the blood. I'm sorry I do not judge those who have abortions but I do think that we as a society take the procedure and what it does to the women way to lightly. We need to start considering the long term affects.

You argue from the point of life.
Life never ends. It is perpetual if you will.
Is a dried up seed life?
Not until it is fed. It has the capability of being something.
Now don't go ballistic and say every time a seed falls so does a child.
It is when the condition is right it has the opportunity.
Opportunity. Isn't that what a constitution was written for?
Stopping a life after conception is the denial of opportunity.
Say what you will if the action for the cause didn't happen you would not have to consider the "choice".
Laws were made to make a flat playing field by people who are not at risk.

"Laws, rules, these are made to ensure the good of society as a whole, while sometimes detrimental or annoying to an individual person." This is at the heart of every modern totalitarian and utilitarian government we've suffered for the past 100 years. Unfortunately, it is not correct. The human person cannot be understood apart from society but cannot be made subservient to it. As Kant said, human beings are always ends in themselves, never means to an end. Inasmuch as this has anything to do with Religion and Spirituality, Christians believe that human beings are the most important thing in all of creation, and society only has legitimacy inasmuch as it is ordered to the good of the human person.
With regards to the bit about periods, wet dreams, etc, well, I guess we disagree about basics of biology. A zygote is not the same as an ovum, etc.

The things aren't related closely enough to be accurate but I see where you were going. (those cells you lose at night would never be anything other then what they were, and came off because that is what they do)
A period doesn't kill a baby, fetus or embryo because nothing has been conceived. You are shedding the lining of the uterus. Common sense.
A wet dream....seriously.
One should not always agree on laws for the good of all that may sacrifice the good of one. Think about where that can lead.
Our leaders should tackle the issue by listening to what the people want. They are elected to represent us, not to decide what rules are good for us to blindly follow.
If I thought abortion should be illegal my view would not change from your arguements. I do not find those good arguements.
Abortion is not for the good of many.

what it comes down to really is the quality of life of the mother vs the right to life of an embryo. I think that the woman's freedom gets lost in all the arguement. If you want to be prochoice, power to you, just don't tell me i have to keep a pregnancy if i decide it is going to hinder my own life. I am no saint and i will reject it if i was ordained. And to all men who go around preaching their prolife doctrine. Till you can get pregnant and have a child and till you can take 50% responsibility of raising a child (not financially but the investment of time and emotional, physical and spiritual contributions) i really don't care what you think. It is up to the woman to decide if she wants to have a child. I am all for male pregnancy, at least then men can decide what they want to do when they get pregnant

Excuse me, but babies don't happen until egg cells and sperm cells meet. Didn't you see that little film...you know the egg cells had those cute li'l eyelashes and the sperm cells had the top hats? They have to get together to make a baby...a period or a wet dream don't make babies.
I'm sorry to have to explain that to anybody over twelve....
I have a feeling that most "pro-choice" people either never had an abortion themselves, or never actually knew anyone who did have one. The results are usually devastating.
Wouldn't it be better to teach our kids sexual responsibility? If you spread your legs, you could get pregnant, so be careful about the choices you make....

Periods are NOT abortions. The egg has to be fertilized to be pregnant. I have my period right now and you are telling me I am having an abortion? You need to get to the nearest insane asylum and be put in a straight jacket. It's not like woman like having periods and since you get them every month it is impossible to be pregnant all the time. Plus what about those people who have a hard time conceiving and are trying to get pregnant. Is there failure an abortion, get a freaken grip you twisted warped moron.

I just saw the answer above mine.Read it twice.I have heard stories like it over and over...

I speak for God - who is infinite - who gives life - who gives breath - who created - who gave - who loves unconditionally!
Who died - for the sin of the whole of mankind! Who indeed, is the way, the truth and the life - who wants to set us free from sin, who forgives the sinner - who sets free from guilt, shame and condemnation, including the guilt and shame of the people who have had abortions, - when they come to Him for forgiveness and repent from their wrong-doing.
