usually, about a 2 gauge is considered "the point of no return", however it all depends on the person. everyone's bodies heal differently so different people's ears may shrink more than others. i have a friend who had his stretched to an inch and when he took them out they still basically closed almost to normal size. if you stay around a 2 or 0 or smaller, they will most likely close up, anything larger than that, you are taking a chance.

also, you can get plastic surgery now to fix that. they stitch it back and it heals to normal size.
hope this answered your question!

0 or 00 is considered to be the point of no return for stretching. If you keep them that size or smaller, they will most likely shrink back to normal size (14-18ga), Everyone's body is different though, and will heal differently. The amount of time it takes also varies.

I had my first earring hole up to a 4.... and it went back to normal just fine. I had the upper ear cartlidge up to a 10... all back to normal. You have to be very careful doing it though... you don't want keloids, or infection or any sort of stuff so make sure to use a taper, or get it professionally done.
