My youngest sister has delt with TMJ ever since a bad car wreck years ago. She's 36 and it gives her great misery. She's been to so many doctors - she's all doctor-ed out. Prescription pain meds cause damage to other systems in the body... so she's worried about future troubles.

Do any of you dear people deal with this malady? And do you have suggestions for pain relief? (Any natural aids?)
Any recipes for more comfort in eating during a flare-up?

All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Peace!

Yes, dear ones - she was diagnosed with TMJ. I'll ask if she has a night guard, though...

my sis has it too, she rubs voltaren gel on her neck and jaw joint, this works perfectly for her, and sleeps with a wheat heat pack on her neck every night, she also uses her mouth guard, she sleeps like a baby,, even though shes 40, best of luck for your sis

7 years ago I've been involved in a car wreck and even since suffered with severe on and off facial and jaw pain. I've tried almost everything western medicine had to offer and had visited countless of specialist, had done ct scans, and therapies but to no avail. The doctors I have been to had persisted that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that almost drove me crazy as I was going through hell from this condition. According to all my symptoms I was diagnosed by a holistic doctor as having TMJ and he had recommended this book to me. After following the recommendation in the book for several weeks, it had changed my life. I got immediate relief after following the unique set of exercises in the book and after 2 weeks the jaw and face pain had completely gone. I only wish I would have ordered this program years ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and anguish.

I went to the dentist and he fitted me with a night guard, and it really helped. I never have pain anymore. But I got my TMJ from night clenching, so I don't know if it would work for TMJ triggered by an injury. A friend of my got it after a car accident and she had surgery for it. That helped her, but it was a long recovery.

i have and do have it ~ yes it is painful i needed to learn not to open my mouth too wide when i talked for as if you do you pop out the temp. joint in your jaw and the blood forces back in your head and causes headaches ~also don't chew gum at all~you should be able to feel your jaws drop if u have this place both of your fingers right below your ear hole opening about a half inch down towards your face you can then feel the jaw slip out of where it actually belongs~its nasty but i never would let them operate on me~many want to and i have heard to many bad stories about it~tell your sis ii have waisted a ton of money on this too bless you both

Are you absolutely positive it's TMJ??
I saw many Dr's who thought I had TMJ, only to discover that I actually had cluster headaches.
I wish you luck and wish I had a better answer for you.
