Striped wallpaper ? vertical or horizontal in a small bedroom ? Any inspirational thoughts or ideas ??

I made my father decorate my bedroom in stripes when I was a kid. I wanted them horizontal because the room was small. The effect was to make the room look bigger and wider. If they had been vertical, the room would have looked tall and very small.
