(If you're unaware of this, they would develop into twins.)

If there are two souls in the case of the resulting identical twins, is the second soul created at the time the laser begins splitting the embryo, or when the laser finishes severing the last cell?

There are people that would actually argue that twins share a soul? A connection yes, a soul? No. All humans are individuals and have a distinct bit of life in them. But I would wager that most of your answers involve dire predictions of the deaths of the embyos or the condemnation of the people involved to Hell.

I posed a question like this earlier today and people were rather pejorative and called it a stupid question - which of course it's not as it does illustrate one of the noted problems with the "life begins at conception" standpoint.

The most sincere answer I received was along the lines of "god anticipates it and puts two souls in."

This is of course a variation of the religious answer for everything. Rather intellectually devoid and disingenuous if you ask me.

I don't know maybe they are the same soul but split -- one good twin and one evil twin like on soap operas.

Zero! Shame on you, you've killed it. To make identical twins, you need to split it before it gets to the 32 cell stage.

Yeah, and what happens in the case of "Chimerism"? Two fertilized eggs fuse and become one creature with two completely different sets of DNA.

Do those two souls fuse? Are they both trapped in one body? Does one pop out and fly back up to the big soul bucket in heaven?

The soul doesn't enter the embryo until it has 256 cells (2^8). So- you're cool. Plus- you will be rewarded by god for providing a location for one more soul.

The soul is not material, so I would say it doesn't matter how much you cut the cells, you won't find any.

the 'soul' is a fabrication of false religion. anyone that promotes the idea of a 'soul' that survives the death of the physical body, is promoting the lie that originated from Satan.
