If anyone has ever been on Paxil, how long does it take to start having a noticeable effect?

Thanks!

Many people begin to notice an effect within a week, but for most it takes at least 2 weeks. Full effect is generally achieved within 4 weeks. The efficacy is often dose related and if you were started on a low dose you may need an increase before noticing significant impact. Low doses are used unitially to minimize side effects, but if you are receiving meds from your primary versus a psychiatrist, just be aware that many primary docs are often reluctant to prescribe enough medication to achieve therapeutic levels. With paxil (regular versus CR), many docs prescribe 10 mg and expect to see an effect, but rarely is that enough except in an elderly person-generally 30-40mg are necessary before full efficacy is achieved.
Hope this helps.

it depends on the person. for some its 2 weeks (sometimes it will have a caffiene like effect the first couple weeks, then that will go away). For others it can be up to 6 weeks. Every person requires a different dosage though. For example, if you drink a lot of alcohol (so that you've built up a pretty high tolerance to it), then your tolerance will be higher for meds such as Paxil (since they work on the same area of the brain). Your Dr may have to continue to adjust your dose before you start feeing any effects at all.

good luck, hope this works out for you.

A minimum of 2 weeks. If you don't feel any different by 3 weeks it may not be the right drug or the correct dose.

It takes at least 2 weeks to get to therapeutic levels in your blood stream. So give it at least that amount of time. If after 2 weeks you still don't notice any changes, contact the prescribing doctor. They may need to adjust the dose.

Of course, if you ever feel WORSE, you need to contact the doctor immediately.
