Prednisone..Hpw long wll it take for Prednisone to get rid of my rash from an allergic reaction?

I have a severe rash from head to toe from using Bactrim.It started out very red and bumpy.After using it 2 days the bumps are gone but I still have the redness all over

The steroid, prednisone, is fairly quick acting. Be aware of the side effects and don't take for longer than 7 days. Short-term side effects, as with all glucocorticoids, include high blood glucose levels, especially in patients who already have diabetes mellitus or are on other medications that increase blood glucose (such as tacrolimus), and mineralocorticoid effects such as fluid retention. Additional short-term side effects include insomnia, euphoria and rarely mania. Long-term side effects include Cushing's syndrome, weight gain, osteoporosis, glaucoma, type II diabetes mellitus, and depression upon withdrawal.
Ocular side effects of glucocorticoids include glaucoma and cataract formation. While most commonly associated with topical or intraocular administration, these ocular complications may also occur with oral, intravenous, or even inhaled administration.

I don't know how severe your reaction was. My mother had a SEVERE rxn not too long ago. The skin even peeled from the inside of her ears and the bottoms of her feet. It was awful. The prednisone cleared her skin up in 3-4 weeks, but it took over 6mos for her hair to stop thinning and for new growth to appear. This was a steven's johnson's type reaction. Just a few days. The prednisone stops the body from reacting to the allergen.

It shouldn't take long but be aware that you must wean off the drug. Do not stop taking it suddenly or your condition could come back big time.
