If they fought back, and attacked. Then Iran could of declared war on Great Britian, and US would have to join. I mean from my view. Might be skewed. I do not think those soilders would like to be responsible for beginning a war. I mean this isn't the first time it happen. Last time spent three days in Iran. Wore a black hoody. Went on TV. Came home. I just hope they do come home safely. An Iran doesn't do anything defiant.

I agree with the above statements, if the royal marines and sailors had fought back, they would be throwing a match into the power keg that is the middle east. Iranians are probably only doing this to flex their muscles and look tough, I believe that they will be eventually released by their captors without any harm befalling them.

Two things.
1. Iran isn't an enemy and they probably have certain orders that don't allow them to fight back unless they are fired upon.
2. If they had tried to fight, then they would have died in a ugly fire fight for nothing. Early reports seem to suggest that there were more than enough Iranians to take out the British sailors and marines.

I'd like to know more about the incident. Maybe the small unit leader on the ship he was inspecting realized he had made a mistake and did not want to start an international incident over a mistake, maybe he was faced with overwhelming odds, maybe he was set up by the Iranians and realized that. We shall indubitable soon know the details. I am thankful they weren't killed and hope they are returned to British authorities soon. If it develops that they were seized in international waters and just doing their blockade job as specified then we simply sink Iran(sic).

They were held at gun point and were probably taken by surprise,it takes a lot to capture British Royal Marines and sailor's without a fight.

You have got no idea what it's like to be captured after fighting or ambushed . If you really want to know what it's like go to any major city like Miami, Watts, Brooklyn, Detroit just to name a few. Walk from one side ot the city at night starting when the sun goes down. Walk from one side of the city if you make it and if you do walk back then you'll know what it's like to be captured. Tell me it you have the chance to fight your captures and survive. That's just here in America now put your self in another country where you don't speak there language..... Now in order to answer that question you'd have to be there or do your research from people who really know.

The sailors are not stupid, they know that they would be negiotiated for and released.
They also know that the U.S. has two carrier battle groups in the Persian Gulf. U.S. Naval Central Command in Qatar, The U.S. 5th Fleet In Bahrain. Two American Army Divisions in Afhganistan , Four Army Divisions in Iraq. The Iranians will give these guys up, they know they are surrounded. They did this to show defiance.
It is obvious that they are powerless. They can train death squads for Baghdad, and take 15 Brits. It is really sad because they know they cannot defeat the U.S. or U.K. on the open battlefield.

They were vastly overpowered by the greater firepower of the Iranian ships; the British were far from their main ship and only in raft-like boats; also the fact that they were in waters that Iran has no jurisdiction over...basically the Iranians trespassed and took these men...If Iran would have confronted the main ship of the Brits, they would have surely backed down because they are bullies who terrorize the weak but quickly knuckle under to the strong...as usual...eg. "300"...

Because there was no point. All that would have done was get the civilians on the boat they were searching killed, and they know they will be released in a few days anyway. Its just more BS from Iran. We should have taken care of this problem in 1979, but we had Carter for a president. *rolls eyes in disgust*

I was astonished to find this out. Most likely, they were caught off guard, since no one could take the second most powerful navy in the world in a head on battle. Going off topic, Great Britain might declare war on Iran. The USA will probably help them, since they wouldn't be strong enough to take on Iran alone.
