I'm almost three weeks out of open inguinal hernia repair surgery. For the first several days my hip would hurt when I would laugh or try to get up. It would subside as I walked around so I attributed it to our couch being worn out.

The pain subsided until a few days ago when I had a sharp pain in my hip while on the commode (embarrassing, I know). Now it hurts when I've been seated on a hard chair for awhile and sometimes if I laugh hard enough it will hurt too. If I get up and walk around it goes away.

Any ideas what it might be? Could it just be that as I've gotten back to moving around from surgery that I'm just walking "wrong" and it's causing the hip pain?

Other than that the healing process is going splendidly. I imagine this will ease up in a few days, just curious in case it doesn't.

The last thing you need to do is see a Chiropractor while recouping from a surgery!

Considering the high failure rate of hernia repair/surgeries, my guess would be while straining you tore the stitching (hernia repair).

The sitting on a hard chair pain can be contributed to sciatic nerve issues. The sciatic nerve runs through your hip and down your leg. It is the largest and most common nerve problem known to man.

I have sciatica and it hurts let me tell you. With sitting around during your recoup time could easily aggravate your sciatic nerve.

I would call or go back to your surgeon to see if the hernia repair failed.

GOOD LUCK!

Anytime I have pains that do not go away,my first move is to get an adjustment or two from the Chiropractor. 98% of the time that will solve a misalignment or a pinched nerve.

This is, for me, the least expensive and most dependable solutions to assorted pains in my body. An enormous amount of pains in the human body are due to misalignment because of odd activity. Sleeping on the wrong pillow can put my neck out of alignment, during surgery, my husbands arm was in an unsupported position for and hour and his shoulder has been bad ever since.

So some pains can be attributed to simple explainable causes. Even a stomach ache can be because vertebrae are out of alignment in the mid back and the pain radiates through the nerves around the body to the chest and stomach area.

These are examples so should you decide to see a Chiropractor, be certain to tell he or she about your recent surgery. THAT IS URGENT.
