Some of the horses I groomed ran in a D-Bit, some ran in a rubber D-bit, and some in a ring bit. It all depends on the horse as to which bit is better. One horse may respond better to a certain bit while the next horse might do better with a different bit than other horse.

Most of ours run in a racing D snaffle bit.
We have a few who run in a ring bit.
It depends on the horse. Some seem not to like the feel of the snaffle in their mouths.
I have one who ran in a french link snaffle. That is a three piece bit. Two sides and a link in the middle. It breaks up the action in the horses mouth and does not pinch the lower jaw.

In most races I ride in the trainers use ring bits, sometimes they might use a ordinary d bit,or a straight bit.
