I’m talking about eliminating the need for big resource consuming open land farming of the animals that feed our populations. Essentially, it’s technology that feeds sensation directly to an animal’s brain, so that the animals can be kept in a relatively small isolated enclosure until they have reached a desired maturity level. This has the advantages of using much less resources to produce much more, reducing exposure to biological agents like virus and bacteria and keeping the animals in ideal condition for their entire lives.

This technology, whilst far fetched and I admit and a long way off has implications that will affect our society because, once the technology has been perfected upon animals, it’s a very small step to using the same technology on humans.

Sounds rather abusive, disrespectful towards the animals. From a *christian* point of view, if God treats us human beings as very important to the point where He will sacrifice His Son for our good, and will actually share His nature with by the Holy Spirit, then its our duty to endeavour to treat with kindness lesser creatures than ourselves. Maybe I should become a veggie!

They may be able to grow meat one day quite soon - just the muscle - from stem cells. So there wouldn't have to be an animal with emotions that could be abused by ill-treatment. I'd be able to eat bacon again, I think pig's foraging and mud-burrowing habits are not healthy so I avoid their meat.

As a Pagan, I would hate to see that. These animals weren't "created" to be just a source of food for humans. They have the right to live out their lives. We should only take what we need, we're already killing animals by the billions so we can turn them into Happy Meals, there's no need to rob them of any life or chance they may have had.

when God gave humans dominion over the earth He left us in stewardship of it. Some ancient writers referred to humans as priests of the earth before God. We have a responsibility to take care of it. Farmers have always been aware of good and bad ways to treat animals, and have rarely chosen such things as you mention. It's only when farming gets taken over by corporate-thinking that things like profit become more important than things like decency.

Technically, it may be possible.
But what it would actually involve, compared to the neat "idea", well that might be something different.

Have you encountered THE MEATRIX?
And that's only about what might be going on now.
