Extension of the ethical exercise where you could go back in time to a point before Hitler became the monster he did, and you had the chance to kill him, would you? Same question, different bad guy. Would you kill Lucifer before he fell if you had the chance? Why, or why not?

OK folks. Thanks for the answers so far. Just to clarify - I'm actually an atheist, so I don't believe the Devil exists. I'm just trying to get a feel for the ethical boundaries people have. Hitler was young and innocent once. So was Genghis Khan, so was Alexander the Great etc etc. They were all born babies, innocent as the day was long. This "Devil" character is never portrayed at any stage before he was fully formed and self-aware. Hence my question - is there a difference (to people who believe he exists) between the Devil and a human being who ended up being "evil"? Thanks.

No. Wtfff. Hitler killed innocent millions through brainwash. That douche deserved to die.

And to a lot of people, Satan = god. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just like there's nothing wrong with people who believe in god. I personally just don't agree with it. And that's fine.

There is certainly a big difference according to Islam.
Humans by born are not evil. Babies are not responsible for their actions or behaviour until fully formed and being self-aware. Devil or Satan is not human. He is fully formed and is self-aware. He is the explicit enemy to humankind. There is no chance of him being a good being again because he has promised to the God, The Creator that he will driven all human into hell.

Human may turn to evil ways but there is a chance before being fully formed and being self-aware that, if proper rehab or guidance is given, he or she will turn to good ways. So we don’t let the chance go. It is our duty to help such a person. To whom rehab or guidance will be given is dependant upon a person’s environment and nature under which he or she commits crime. If it is the nature of the person that, given the good ways before him or her, the person will still follow the bad ways and drive other to the same way as well then for that person punishment is the better solution to save other humankinds from extinction or from bad influence.

Well: You can"t Kill A Spirit,He is a Spirit that has to have A "Host" Body "Man "to operate in this Earth,There are People that want to be like Him--A Rebel,God will put Him in Solitary confinement for Thousand Yrs, He is Released to
To temp the Billions that are Born during the 1000 yr Reign of Christ from Temple Mount in Jerusalem,Once again there is a great number of People that will follow Him to Jerusalem,The last Rebellion ,Thrown into Lake of Fire.
This will settle the Argument ,Is it Nature or Nuture that Makes a Man choose Evil,These People born during That "Time"
have only Good for a 1000 yrs and still will choose Satan,
This runs counter to Education Mind Set.Man"s Heart is desperately Wicked,Who can know it?

I aways find it funny why someone who calls themselves an atheist, and then they ask a question on a Religious web page, anyway you have your reasons, and my answer is no, why? well better the devil you know than the one you don't, because there will always be evil whilst man is around they go together like bread and butter, kill one and he would be replaced with another, kill Hitler and what would have happened? no war, no murders of innocent people, could you be sure, what about Hitlers replacement? remember Hitler made a mistake, more than one, if he had been killed his replacement may not have made the same mistakes and there could have been far more death.
Think about it

This was the theme of the movie based upon the novel by Stephen King titled " The Dead Zone." If you could forsee the future and know what Adolf Hitler or any demogogue (right spelling?) was about to do would you assassinate him or her? Yes I would. But Hitler was under the radar. A failed painter. A WWI veteran who only rose to the rank of corporal. Hindenberg spuriously called him " The little corporal." Satan was at the right hand side of God when he fell. It was a matter of hubris. Overweening pride. If there was not satan, could there be a God. You can't have the Ying without the Yang.

there is no such thing as a fallen angel
to believe in such a thing is to believe that G-d is not all powerful

to believe that a being that was created to serve G-d, with no free will of it's own, could STILL defy G-d, and then spend the rest of eternity fighting G-d and winning battles over G-d, and according to the Christians even KILLING G-d...that is just ludicrous

HaSatan....the Satan, is/was/will always be just a sservant of G-d and to kill a servant of G-d is foolish in the extreme

we are mere mortals....we have no clue the true purposes and missions that G-d set's the angels too, and just because HaSatan appears evil to us doesn't make it so

The only person/being that has the power to overthrow the Devil is Jesus, God's only son.
As for Killing Hitler before he could become a monster, would mean that you would have to be a monster yourself. So my answer is No

does this question even make sense?

but to humor you, i think i won't, assuming i had the ability to do so and the Devil exists

because it raises too many questions

i'm sure i wont be the only answerer to say that the Devil serves a purpose, as a sort or willing or unwilling tormentor of sinners

if there was no such "justice" system in place, then society will crumble as we know it, assuming we had such knowledge

and who noes, maybe if i kill him, i will be forced to take his place (and then some other deuchbag will want to kill me)

Impossible question to answer, god would kill you before you struck, because he knew everything, and the devil was part of the plan, so any would-be assassin would have to be stopped by god, so he could become angry at his perfect creation for seeking knowledge, and could kick them out of the garden, then flood the earth for his angels procreation with earth women, so then he could impregnate a virgin to give birth to himself, so he could commit suicide on the cross to make everything well again.

How's that for a run-on sentence?
