This is normal. My shih-Tzu does the same. He is not afraid more than likely afraid he looks funny. These dogs are very sensitive. He will be fine just love him and tell him he is handsome. He will come around.

First, what do you mean by 'we' ? Did YOU shave the dog? Or did you take him to a groomer?

If YOU shaved him, it obviously traumatized him and he's afraid that if he comes out, you'll do it again. This is one of many reasons I strongly urge owners to use a groomer and not try this at home.

If you had him shaved by someone else, pull him out of hiding and give him a once over- there's a chance the groomer was rough on him and he might be hiding an injury. Check him all over for nicks or scratched, or any red patches on his skin- this is called clipper burn and it can be very painful. Also, gently squeeze his body in small areas- his foot, his ankle, his leg, his shoulder, etc.- and see if he shows any signs of soreness.

If he doesn't come out in a day or two, contact a vet or behaviorist for help.

Did you shave him or did a groomer shave him. If he didn't do that until after he was shave then he had a bad time getting shaved. He may come around after a few days.. I have had to get my Shih Tzu's shave from time to time because having 8 of them they sort of got out of hand so my groomer had to shave them..But they ran around as if showing off their new hair style lol..so it had to have had a bad experience while he was getting shaved. Just being scare would do it.

He is cold and humiliated, and probably thinks you hate him.
