Well number one It is a cry for help, because she relied on him and when he turned her down she felt rejected, and when people get rejected they feel like there is no point in them living, because they are not wanted anymore, now if she is infact playing there is no attention she is going to recieve except heartache, but i think she is suffering from rejection, and notw she may feel well what could i have done differently? How can i make this work? what do i need to do? do i need to change the way I look or dress? Why did u leave me? So there are many things, but attention, I hardly doubt, and maybe that is a way for him to come back. but I doubt it

it's manipulative in her way. also, it's her way of coping with mental anguish she doesnt know how to deal with. it's become a 'habit' a bad one at that. some people do drugs, some drink alcohol. some deal with emotions productively, safely to themselves and others. this girl doesnt. tell him to speak to her parents or siblings or other relatives and perhaps they can help her. does he want to be with her? is the 'cutting' the problem? or is there other problems?
If it's not a compatible relationship, it's best he move on...tell her straight that its her cutting and threatening to kill herself that he cant handle and he's not a professional psychiatrist and she needs to learn how to deal with her emotions productively in a positive manner. peace

that's a serious problem anyway. regardless of relational issues. people self-mutilate usually because it is a scar that they can deal with. you have a cut on your arm or wrist - put some Cortaid on it, Band-aid - all better.
you can't do that with emotional issues. it requires dealing with the issue head on. some people can't do that or don't want to. and that's why they cut themselves.
i think when we're dealing with this, professional attention needs to be paid. just one guy's opinion.

its a cry for attention, he should tell her he isn't putting up with it no more and he will not take her calls anymore. he shouldn't feel guilty if she does anything, she obviously needs help and not from him

yeah it is. But if you are her friend, try to convince her to get help for this. Its not normal to do that.
