I just found out that I MIGHT have to reinstall my os, so let me ask.....how hard is this to do!!?? Im not exactly clueless when it comes to computers, but Im certainly no expert in the technical part of it. I was told that its pretty basic, but there are some things you have to be aware of, and just know what you're doing(obviously) Has anyone done this? What's the deal with the specifics that need to be known? My computer is only 7 months old, but it has an issue that may require to do a complete reformat. But Im just wondering if anyone has done this with little, or no difficulty.

if you got cd, like window xp, then just insert, it will guide you step by step about how to reinstall the windows. make sure back up your data before do that, because reinstall windows means refomat the windows. if possible, i suggest avoid that. what is the problem? you can try other alternatives to avoid reistallation like defram, and registry repair something like that

Why exactly do you need to reinstall your OS?
It is not difficult but the process is different depending on what you are using to reinstall.
When I use the disk the manufacture sends with the computer it has an image of the hard-drive as it came from the factory and all I need to do is boot the system from my CD-ROM and follow the instructions.
When I install an OS system from an after market disk ( Store bought OS ) then I need to start the system with a boot disk, format the hard-drive and the create a partition before loading on the operating system.

My first concern is that you are having to reinstall the OS at only 7 months. Did you get a virus? Is it running slow? Do you keep your cookies, spam and cashe cleaned out?

reinstalling the OS is easy enough. Just pop the OS CD in the drive and fire away. Only problem is you have to reinstall EVERYTHING else too...Antivirus and the like, and then update that all over again. Its easy, it just takes a long time.

its not hard .. provided you have the system disks for the os and your software - and you backup your data, and note what customised settings you are using for things.

before you do it, try http://www.hijackthis-new.info/uk/ to see if it can help you fix whatever problem you have

i'd suggest that you check your makers website to see what driver downloads are there. If they dont have a full set use control panel / system / device manager to check what chipsets you have for video, sound etc, and see where you will be able to download the drivers afterwards.

the reinstallation isn't that difficult in itself - the problems are usually in finding the right drivers.

since hard disks are pretty cheap these days, a low risk approach would be to get a new disk, install to that, and then mount the old disk as drive D: just so you can find anything you forgot to backup ...
and in if you have to you can swap the disks round and get back to your old system,

My question to you is, are you sure you need to reinstall?
Does your system load?
Can you go online?
There are several web sites that will check for trojans, adware, and viruses that have the ability to make one think they have to reinstall, when in fact, you don't.
Can you load in Safe Mode?
Just key the F8 key before your system loads, and you should see several options, one of which is,"Load last windows configuration".
I don't want to get too technical, but it is worth a try.
XP also has a system restore function, located in My Computer, which is elementary.
That is certainly worth a try.
If you must reinstall, just pop your XP CD in ,and let her go.
I've loaded XP several times,without a problem.
Good luck

Ive done it many times, its fairly simple. Just know what partion you want to install on or delete and it will pretty much walk you through itself.

Vista is extremly easy and xp is not to bad either. Out of 10 its about 7.

Not familar with other versions of windows or anything.

Good Luck.
