Your body will go into starvation mode and start "hoarding" fat. Even if you lose weight, you will gain back twice as much later. Not to mention your body will take things it needs from your bones, brain, and other organs and put them where they are most needed. This will make you age faster among other things.

Then, later in life, your body will keep you pudgy because it is afraid to lose weight.

There is an appropriate way to lose weight permanently without throwing your metabolism off.

I'm not telling you what to do, but trust me, if you choose to do things slowly , you'll feel better about your accomplishments and feel better physically. Good luck.

The poster above who said about 1400-1600 calories is about right.

If you are looking for fat to melt away forever, combine that amount of calories with SWIMMING. Swimming is from my experience an excellent way for you to feel great, look great, and stay looking great. Take a swimming class and eat your vegetables.

Don't do it. I was like that when I was younger and because of that, my metabolism is so screwed up that I can't lose weight to save my life. I have done 3 marathons, exercised constantly, eat right, and still have a problem all because I treated my body so poorly years ago.
The people that I know who look great are the ones who always ate well and didn't do the crash diets. I wish to God, someone would have told me that years ago to just eat healthy. It would have saved me years of frustration and heartache.

That calorie count is way too low for anyone to lose weight and remain healthy! I believe that they generally recommend 1300-1500 calories a day or so depending upon the person's age, height and medical history. You may lose weight but also your life! It can be water loss and muscle loss and electrolyte (important minerals that make one's heart tick) loss which is extremely dangerous. Healthy eating and increasing one's physical activity is the only safe way to lose weight and build a healthier lifestyle.

That is not a good idea because it will slow your metabolism (you will burn fewer calories) because your body will think you are starving and it will try to conserve body fat.

I read in Prevention that you will lose 2 lbs per week if you eat 1200 a day without exercise, or 1500 calories a day with exercise.

you should eat more than that like, recommended is 2000 calories so you should eat at least 1600 or something, right? also you need to burn them off by exercising, just changing your diet will probably not work very well.

You might have an initial weight loss, but you'll gain back very quickly. Your body will go into starvation mode and will retain any fat you eat for future use.
