Because Christians turned it into a religious issue when it is a moral issue.

Thanks for stabbing the cause in the back guys...

After reading some of the replies I think the answer is obvious. The reason is because a lot of selfish people who have already been born and who don't have to worry about their mother killing them before they have legal status consider it more important to have cute looking turtles swimming around for them to enjoy than they do about the innocent unborn humans who may end up getting tossed into a medical disposal bin.

Save a turtle egg and feel like you did something noble.

Kill an unborn baby and feel justified by defending your "right to".

Makes no sense.

I dunno, humans are far from being endangered? The eggs are laid so it's basically not anything the mother has to go through still? I mean if she was turtle raped, she didn't have to go through 9 months and actually raise the kid (or get reunited when the kid she adopted out finds her and wants a reason why)...the turtle just gets to leave and the kids never have to know why they exist and none of them care. Humans are a bit more complicated then that...

Notice that those who think that it should be illegal to have an abortion never preface their comments with, "while we should be saving the baby turtles too . . . "

Most so-called Pro-Lifers don't seem to give a damn about other species and indeed, if it's not simply a control issue with the men of their ilk, seem to want us to proliferate so grandly that we push every other species on this planet into extinction because their God made this planet a theme-park for them and is coming to torch it soon anyway, other life, other faiths be damned.

Turtles are threatened with extinction, so to try and save these creatures it's illegal to do such thing.

If there are people out there who just cannot raise a child to be a good person in this society, or that child would suffer, I'd say try not to bring a child to this world for all that suffering.

Turtles are in danger of extinction. Humans are in danger of overpopulating and destroying the planet. Turtle eggs aren't a part of a woman's body, and many women don't die in the process of giving birth to turtle eggs.
The turtle mom wants her babies.

That unborn child is a fetus or an embryo.

Ever heard of pro-choice? A woman shouldn't be absolutely and always forced to carry a child and give birth.

Also, turtles are an endangered species.

Because turtles can take care of themselves, but people can't. It requires the life of someone else, who may not have the money or emotional resources to care for a highly dependent being.

Life doesn't stop at birth. You can't be pro-life unless you are pro-life through all stages of life. You must also care about the entire life of that baby.
