That is one way of looking at nursery rhymes and sometimes if you do they can look a bit macabre ie. pop goes the weasel could be something rather unpleasant, as could the one about the baby falling thru the branches of a tree all the way to the ground, mm not very comforting for the baby. Rock a bye baby. Ring a roses is about the Plague. Atishoo, atishoo we all fall down. Jack falling down and cracking his head open. There are probably loads more.
Anyway I would have voted you Best Answer if I had seen that site as I agree with your opinion.

i am personally not a fan of some nursery rhymes or stories as they seem to be about death a great deal including books like 3 little pigs but on the other hand i grew up reading them and as a child i was never bothered that the pigs died or whatever i think that as we grow up and become adults we do maybe pay more attention or think things threw more than you would as a child but they are not all horrid and my favourite book is still the shoemake and the elves lol

the original classic nursery rhymes were about death and horrible times i.e ring a ring a roses but they were invented to teach the children of the times what to do and how to protect themselves in the same way we now teach them with songs like 3 little monkeys jumping on the bed we teach them that they will hurt themselves by jumping on that bed. if u would like to no all the reasons check out this website www.rhymes.org.uk

we treat nursery rhymes as cute little songs and stories for our kids....but when they were made up they were historical stories and warnings for children of the time....although i am sure that they got changed as they come down through history.......

Yes, you are correct, probably most of them were invented by the sick and dying and to think we sing them to our kids to cheer them up.

They do seem full of disasters. I suppose it was the method of teaching children what would happen to them if they didn't toe the line
