IN THE STATE OF OHIO,I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MEDICARE WILL PAY FOR A HEARING TEST TO DETERMINE IF HEARING AIDS ARE NEEDED TO IMPROVE A PERSONS ABILITY TO HEAR BETTER. IF SO WHAT ARE MEDICARE GUIDELINES?DOES A PERSON NEED TO GET A REFERRAL FROM THEIR FAMILY DOCTOR BEFORE THEY GO TO A HEARING SPECIALIST? IS THERE ANY REASON WHY MEDICARE WOULD REFUSE A HEARING TEST. THE AVERAGE COST FOR A HEARING TEST IS APPROXIMATELY $100.00 WHICH COULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO MAY BE ON A FIXED INCOME. KNOWING WHAT THE GUIDELINES ARE WOULD BE VERY BENEFICIAL FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO FEEL THEY MAY HAVE TO INVEST IN HEARING AIDS BUT DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW UNTIL THEY ARE TESTED. ANY INFORMATION YOU MAY HAVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED BY MANY PEOPLE .

There are countless places you can go to get a free hearing test without getting Medicare involved.

Most Hearing Instrument Specialists offer such tests and they are fully licensed to discover if you are a suitable candidate for hearing aids or need a medical referal.

Just check your local newspaper or yellow pages and you will find a place offering free hearing tests.

Unfortunately the problem is if you do need hearing aids you can expect to pay upwards of $2,000 for a set, and Medicare will not pay a penny to help you.

I am on Medicare and had my hearing tested in Utah. You have to see an actual audiologist plus you have to see an ENT doc for medicare to cover it. I had to see both in the same office on the same day. Good Luck.

Please don't type in all caps. It makes it hard to read.

You need to contact Medicare and find out where to go for the hearing test.
