As the little robot (Number Five) on "Short Circuit" said many years ago:

To give you a more meaningful answer than the one above (which, to all intents and purposes is about as clear as you're going to get!) we are going to need some more details such as:

1. To what "environment" are you referring? We all live in an environment!
2. To what creature are you referring? Plant, animal, fungi, bacteria or what?
3. To which continent / time zone / area (as in tropical/ temperate / arid / artic or antartic) are you referring?
4. To which time period are you referring? The amount of resources in each geological time period have altered somewhat...

With this information we can formulate an answer. Maybe you should consider removing and reposting...
