No--it is based on superstition, something that Christians do not believe in.
Why did people start saying this. It is because it was believed that___
1. A sneeze is the expulsion of some sort of evil, and the phrase is meant to ward off the evil's re-entry. Due to this some people believe that it is unlucky to say thank you, as this allows the evil to return.
2. Your soul can be thrown from your body when you sneeze, and saying "bless you" prevents your soul from being stolen by Satan or some evil spirit. Thus, "bless you" or "God bless you" is used as a sort of shield against evil.
3. A sneeze is good luck and saying "bless you" is no more than recognition of the sneezer's luckiness.

Yes, every time. apparently your heart stops for a split second when you sneeze so people said bless you as you came out the other side alive! I don't know how true this is or if it is just an old wives tale.

I believe that some people think your soul leaves the body when you sneeze, blessing someone, gives them their soul back. Or something like that?

I try to say Guzhundheit or Salute which reference health to you.
I grew up with God Bless you but not everyone believes the same. A friend jokingly says Zeus Bless You and it seems to offend certain faiths.

It does not make sense to say so, bless you for what? for sneezing? when he has just rendered a thousand bacteria homeless? I rather say hard luck.

Sometimes. If it catches me full in the face I am not likely to say bless you.
