Your best bet is to see your local piercer (no charge for this) and get them to take a look.

If it is healed, then you can just wash your hands and take out the jewellery. If it is unhealed BUT clean and uninfected, again, carefully wash your hands and take it out., then soak you ear with warm (SEA) salt water.

If however your piercing is already infected, you may need antibiotics. See Your piercer because if a doctor makes you take it out, it will not be able to drain therefore causing an absess.

Just wash your hands and remove the jewerly. Keep the area clean untill it heals. No need for bactine or neosporin (they're not supposed to be used on puncture wounds) The skin should close up in a few days if it's a fairly new piercing. If you have trouble with the jewelry, go see your piercer and they will help you out (usually no fee for removing jewelry)

I'm assuming it is a small gauge piercing. SCRUB your hands and then remove the jewelry - it might hurt, but suck it up, it has to be done. Rub Neosporin on the hole and leave applied for 30 minutes before rinsing away with sea salt solution. NEVER leave an ointment on a healing/infected piercing as it will clog it and not allow it to drain.

If you have a large gauge piercing, however - leave the jewelry in, and make sure it is healed before you remove it.
