judgmental much? maybe growing up in a repressed environment led her to eventually express herself in a more rebellious and extreme way. or maybe that is just who she is and you should accept and love her unconditionally.

Newsflash: Getting a tatoo doesn't change who she is on the inside. Although she may have changed the way she looked on the outside with some ink to her skin, she is still the same academically intelligent girl who wants to be a doctor. Who is to say that she cannot get a tatoo. You are lucky that it is just music notes. She could have done something worse. Did you ever think what significance it has to her? I have two tatoos, graduated the top of my class in both high school and college. I have my own home, a family, three cars and make a very good living. Are you saying just because I have a tatoo I am trailer trash? Think again. And, i'm sure you've done "dumb" things in your past. Get over it.

It appears that your daughter is a bright, well educated, aspiring human being. From what you write she sounds like she's well rounded and diverse in all that she does.
Maybe her mother should follow suit. A well rounded education would not only teach her how to spell, but also that a tattoo has never been the internationally recognized symbol for trailer trash. And I know here in Texas, a tattoo does not mean you're a skank...that is usually associated with sleeping around and being easy. Hmmm..not exactly the definition of a tattoo.
Your daughter has opened up her mind in more than one way...try it...you'll be a much happier person.
As a parent myself, I don't know how a mother can label their own daughter as a skank and trailer trash from a tattoo. Heaven forbid she got her belly button pierced!

Just so you know, I have four tattoos am a college graduate with a bachlor's degree, am a professional registered nurse, the mother of two brillant children, and wife of nine years. Your words hurt not only your daughter but many others who you just lumped as "trailer trash". I know many doctors who have tattoos as well as many other professional people. Judge not lest ye be judged. Those of us with tattoos are among you every day in every type of profession. Keep up the small minded thinking and you many lose your outstanding character daughter. There are worse things that she could do.

By the way that you are trying to spell I would have to say the apple doesnt fall far from the tree. Who gives a **** that you dont like her new tattoo, guess what, she will be getting plenty more of them now. If she got a good sized tattoo on her forearm, then she is dedicated now. It means she doesnt care about these bullshit taboos society has against people with tattoos. And once you get one, you get more.
And what the hell is a skant? If you were trying to to spell skank I still dont see how you got a t for the last letter as oppossed to the k. Are you really that mad at your daughter?

Well I'm sure what goes on personally but maybe it was a release,to show personality and to express herself after all it is music notes and not a boyfriend name or a gang sign. Some of the smartest people have tattoos and I know that your a father just trying to protect your daughter. I don't think saying that your daughter looks like trailer trash was the best thing to do for yourself. I think that you should talk to your daughter and ask her why she got the tat, That's what I would like my father to do with me, talk it out.

What a lovely thing to say about your daughter.
My guess is she did it because she wanted to. Smart people get tattoos too. I'm a paramedic student, I have degrees in both philosophy and anthropology, graduated high school at the top of my class, won provincial recognition for it, won scholarships, and I have lots of tattoos and piercings.
My roommate has a degree in bio chemistry, is a paramedic, will be going to med school soon and he's got more tattoos than I do.
In fact, I know quite a few doctors who have tattoos, some have full sleeves.
Why don't you try sitting down and talking to your daughter. Find out why she wanted a tattoo and what it means to her. People who choose to modify their bodies don't usually make the decision lightly. It probably has a lot of meaning to her. Instead of having a big fight, why don't you take the time to learn something new about her,

She is a Adult its her body to do with as she pleases.
Its not the tattoos that make people skants as you call them. They would be skants with or with out the tattoos. Her accomplishments speak volumes that shes not a skant. There are many different walks and types of people who get tattoos.
Doctors, Teachers, Mothers, Fathers. Just because you dislike the tattoo doesn't change who your daughter is or anybody else for that matter.
A tattoo isn't worth putting a wedge in you relationship with her.
It's ok that you say to her you dislike tattoos... everybody has a right to their opinion. But you can't judge people by there covers. You still love her right ??? And she's no a Skant..
So move on...Life is to short....

st wants to express herself! Maybe she's always wanted one and now she's old enough, or she just wants to know the feeling of being able to make her own decisions.
Some people really like tattoos, some don't--and today you can have one removed if you want to.
C'mon, it could be a lot worse, coming home with a DUI or telling you she's pregnant or something--or she could've had the tat done on her neck! Consider yourself a blessed m

The year, and the status your daughter has in her class, means NOTHING...
If she likes tats, she likes them. If she's 18, she can get as many as she wants.
Honestly, it's people with your mindset that push human kind back a few hundred years. Your daughter is still the same person, regardless of the ink she has on her. If you loved her before, you'll love her now. A music note on her arm isn't supposed to change the way someone thinks about you. And if it does, that person needs a reality check.
Get one.

I am sure she doesn't look like trailer trash. almost 50% of people under 40 today have at least one tattoo. My wife and I have 2 each, and we are getting another tonight. If you don't like tattoos, don't get any. But there may be a bigger issue here than just a Tattoo. Maybe you should let your daughter make her own decisions.
