Maybe they are afraid they will not be able to get a big enough automatic wage increase if they do not eliminate payouts somewhere.
Illegal immigration is always at the top of the election garbage but, once in, why worry about it as much unless of course your hand is in someones pockets. After all it is we the people that end up supporting the aliens and their children born here.

I guess they havent seen the news that more Americans are killed by illegals everyday than soldiers in Iraq, pretty sad on both counts. Both are very important issues for the soverienity of this country. I will be looking for a president that I can agree with to help stop both these problems!

They only hear and respond to what pleases them. They don't give a damn about our military. Ted Kennedy is a fat /drunk joke looking for a place to happen.
The Democrats only hear the sound of their own
misplaced liberal leanings. And the ca-ching of money in their pockets from the pro illegal alien lobby.
Poll numbers can be far too easily manipulated to be considered fact or truth.
The poster above posts facts .

Maybe they are smart enough to see through the facade that illegal immigrants are the nations biggest problem. Because that is simply not true, they don't even rank among the top ten.

They ignore anything they don't want changed. I think they want credit for ending the war, and they want illegals given amnesty to gain their votes. I don't think they are counting on the soldiers coming home to the mess they are making and being very displeased. What are they fighting for if not to make sure our country is secure? At least that's what they are being told.

I'm an American person. I want our troops home, but I don't think it's a good idea to bring them all home today. Bush and his crew made a huge mess in Iraq and it will take a long time to clean up. Unfortunately I think all Americans, myself included, bear some responsibility for letting Bush the doof steal the presidency in 2000 which led to this mess. We can't in good conscience hang Iraq out to dry. I like Murtha's ideas for Iraq. As far as immigration, legal or illegal, I think our best hope lies in making sure that no workers are abused anywhere on the planet. Strong global unions offer one answer. If life is decent for everyone everywhere, no one will feel compelled to come here. This probably won't happen within my lifetime, if ever. Instead, people will probably be content to blame the immigrants and try to think of new ways to keep them out, round them up and send them back. "All sticks and no carrots." seem to be the U.S. motto these days.

Because poll after poll shows that the American people find that the Iraq conflict is much more important to them than immigration.
