Your friend is an idiot. The fire trucks come because:
a) There area lot more fire precincts than ambulances, so they have a geographic advantage.
b) All firefighters are required to have EMT certification, and as such can stabilize a patient and dramaticaly increase survival chances for critically injured people who are waiting on medical transport.
c) The fire trucks can do any kind of extrication/advanced rescue that an ambulance simply is not equipped to do.

There are several reasons they go. It's possible that the ambulance and the fire engine are in two seperate places and the fire engine is closer to the call. This would get emergency personnel on the scene faster. Additionally, they are there in case extra manpower is needed. A lot of towns will also send a police officer on an ambulance call as well.

well firemen have to have a medic or emt certification most times they do the laydown work before ems get there . If you remember the days ago back when paramedics first got established they use to come as firemen paramedics and they came in rescue trucks thats where the orginal idea started it wasn't till the 80's that you really seen them start coming in ambulances due to the fact it was cheapter and more time effent than to have to wait on a private ambluance company to transport your paticent to the hospital

Because often the fire department can get there faster and they have just as many EMTs and paramedics as the ambulance service. They can treat you while waiting for an ambulance to transport you. Better service, higher success rate.

Fire trucks come because most firefieghters have EMT certification and also fire trucks usually carry many of the things ambulances carry. If a fire truck comes it's not going to be the only responder an ambulance will come because fire trucks aren't equipt to transport people who are injured.

I think it is because there are usually more fire stations spread out so they can get there faster. Hospitals are sometimes too far away and if first aid is needed right away, an EMT from the fire station can stabilize the victim before an ambulance arrives.

Firetrucks come because they have personel that are medically trained to provide fast first response to sick people. The ambulance can come later when transport is required.
