It is true, you can catch and spread all types of ungodly stuff from toilet seats.
Children use toilet seats and some children become exposed to "Ring worms". That effective person sets on the seat then here you come and set on the seat.
The next thing you'll know is you'll be itching and noticing a round red shaped worm on your behind. Not cute!
Craps. Gotten by sexual contact. then you itch. So if a person had crabs and they scratched while using the toilet then you come and guess what? Your going to be scratching too.

This sounds gross but try not to set on it especially if you are a girl. I never set on a public toilet seat. I will use those paper clovers and I still won't set on it.
Oh yeah, Lice is another possibility
You can't be to careful
As for genital herpes, that disease is transmitted by having intercourse

I don't know about genital herpes, but I'm certain that you can catch crabs from a toilet seat.

I think crabs and ringworm are the only things you can catch off a toilet seat.

I DO NOT THINK GENITAL HERPES BUT SKIN INFECTIONS LIKE STAPH WHERE THE SKIN IS IN CONTACT WITH THE SEAT. WIPE THE SEAT WITH AN ANTISEPTIC WIPE IF YOU MUST SIT.

You can catch parasitic infections, but others would be pretty tough. However, it's possible to get a bacterial infection if enough contact between broken skin and fluid is made (like I said, pretty tough, but not impossible).

No, these types of pathogens cannot survive more than a couple of minutes away from the body. They need intimate person to person contact to transmit.

Not genital herpes---no. You get that from sexual contact. You could possibly get a staph infection.
