This might sound silly........I have a friend who is the mother of a 5 year boy old who is going through a funny phase. Very simply, he has been trying to get her, and even her women friends sit on his lap! She thought this was funny for a while, but she is getting tired of telling him "no", and trying to explain why it will not work. Is this strange? Has anyone ever heard of this before? She is wondering how to help him to get over it. Any ideas?
I have asked about this here for her before. Several suggestions have been to just do it. Although that would probably satisfy his curiosity, she is a little nervous about it. Wouldn't that be dangerous?
I know this seems ridiculous.

sounds like something he heard from someone.....nothing to be alarmed about.....i would not feed into his request.....i would tell him that it is not appropriate to ask that of other people......and tell him when he keeps asking, you will just ignore him.........he sees it is getting a response from people and maybe just let others in on his odd behavior ahead of time....and ask that people ignore him or just say no!!!! but he is only five so keep the explaining to a minimum.....just keep it simple for him.....and remember even a little laughing will feed his need...he probably just enjoys the attention.....good luck.....

It's a phase. Kids are so curious at 5. Most of us are too big either one way or the other to sit on a 5 year old's lap. I guess family members could make a joke out of kinda sitting on his lap to appease him, not sit all the way down, though, unless they are really small. Probably have to do the same with him as with the 2 and 3 year olds--diversion--like lets go for a walk or bike ride or toss the ball or shoot some hoops, instead.

He probable thinks that's humorous. the only way i will think of of letting him comprehend that that's beside the point is to take him aside and enable him comprehend which you do no longer % him asking human beings to take a seat on his lap. That it would desire to break him as properly as being beside the point. If the mummy ever hears him asking, she might desire to gently say (in private) something like "we've communicate approximately this, keep in mind, you at the instant are not meant to be asking that question. Do you keep in mind why I informed you to no longer ask that question?" If he would not provide a passable answer, repeat what you stated in the previous and enable him flow. Repeat till he obeys. the main right it extremely is consistancy. in case you enable him do it each so often and others no longer, he won't get the message. good success!

My brother used to ask grown-ups to do that. My grandmother, who is quite heavy set, decided to oblige my brother. She slowly lowered herself down until her rear end hovered about three inches over his lap. When she say how nervous he looked, she laughed and told him it wasn't a good idea for someone her size to sit in a lap that small. He never asked again.

My brother never told me why he asked but I think he was just trying to be more grown-up. Afterall, adults let people sit in their laps all the time.

My advice to your friend is to let a smaller child or maybe a small animal sit in his lap. Or maybe a teddy bear.

I would say he just wants to prove he's strong. However, you're saying he's only interested in women. Sounds like someone wants a lap dance for their 6th birthday.

it is a bit weird for a boy to request that . probably seen someone doing it . yeah i guess you'd have to just do it ..... of course the one sitting on his lap would hold his/her own weight so as not to injure the child

My sister did that too. My mom finally did sit on her lap. She never asked again.

That is weird. That child has matured too quickly. Anyway, I guess either do it one and never do it again, or, better, keep going a little longer in telling him no.

I don't know. I think the kid may be on the right track. That's the only age that you can ask that and get away with it.
