So I'm a nanny (aka carrying a lot of kids) and recently I had some pretty bad lower back pain however no immediate trauma that may have caused this. This dull ache has been going on for at least a month probably more. I decided to see a chirpractor. He was such a nice guy, took time to go over what was bothering me and did some diagnosis. He performed a spinal analysis machine and discovered my right side carries 12 pounds more than my left which made total sense to me. Also using another handheld machine and handheld diagnosis that my neck had a lot of tension and that could be pinching my nerve and causing my headaches. The cost was only $35 dollars and I have another appoitment to go over costs, plan of action, etc. However, when I called my mom she was like oh that's bull***t he just wants money, they're quacks and doesn't want to file to insurance. I believe in this however I'm in college, not financially set. Are they really quacks, can I even afford this, is it worth it

I would be highly suspicious of the "carrying 12lb more on one side" it means nothing in medicine and I would agree with your mom. A good chiropractor does not need fancy little machines to "diagnose" Find a practitioner who is personally recommended

I am a fervent believer in chiropractic care. Chiropractos always helped me. I went to medical doctors and almost died from reaction to drugs.
With the chiro you can get some instant relief. With a medical doctor you wait two weeks, get a prescription and an appointment for a follow up in two more weeks. Meanwhile the pain starts to make you crazy.
There is no quackery with the profession. It is regulated by your state, just like medical doctors are.
Look how many chiros there are. If they weren't doing any good, they would all be out of business.
With begging, cajoling, pushing and demanding, I have gotten relatives and friends to see chiropractors when they had neck or back problems. In all cases they were helped.

My niece, age 29 at the time, wanted to get pregnant. Her sister-in-law suggested she see a chiro. The doctor diagnosed an alignment problem, predicted that she would be pregnant in six weeks. Sure enough, she did get pregnant six weeks after starting treatment. His only instructions to her: "Don't say to anyone that I helped you get pregnant."
If there is a drawback, you may have to stick with chiropractic for the rest of your life, meaning maybe a once a month tune up to keep your vertebrae in alignment.
I say go for it.

Does it work?

There is no scientific evidence that it does. This does not mean that many people are pleased with chiropractic care or that it is a waste of money.

Chiropractic care is as much of belief system as a healing art.
Many people benefit from prayer and meditation although there is limited evidence that either helps medical conditions.
There are millions out there who use polarity therapy, reflexology, herbal treatments, chicken soup who get relief.

The money issue is up to you. It is not a waste if you feel it is giving you benefit.

its worth it if you have found someone that is really helping you...$35 is a deal...here in santa cruz its about $95..and some insurance companies do cover chiropractic care...i think you should go for a couple of adjustments and see if it is helping you...then make a decision...my chiropractor also told me that my headaches and moodiness were because i had pinched nerves and my spine basically was not in good shape...it did help me, but the cost made me decide not to continue treatment...good luck

It could be muscle pain, especially if you are a heavy built person. Also, it can be a disk problem. Sometimes a Chiropractor can help, but I would get an opinion from a medical doctor to see if an MRI is needed. If you have a disk problem (like me) then you need medical attention.

Chiropractic treatment can help lower back pain that is not caused by disk problems
