Not only can you determine if you have smoked weed in the past, but you can test for any other illicit substance use that you have partaken in. While more conventional testing practices such as urine or saliva can typically only tell you what the subject has used in the past 5 or so days, hair follicles will keep a permanent record of any substance the subject has indulged in since the hair has been growing.

Hair can be used to test for drug use. A sample of hair is taken and tests, similar to urinalysis are run. Hair samples can tell when you stopped using or if you are using at all.
