No, you would not have caught it from any of your above examples. Hep C is passed on through blood and through sexual intercourse (only if there is blood to blood contact during intercourse).

No. The way that you can contract Hepatitis C is through blood to blood contact. Needle sharing; such as in drug usage, blood transfusion with contaminated blood are some of the ways you may have become infected with it. If you are working in the medical profession, you may also be at risk. Sharing toothbrushes, shavers or anything which may have come in contact with the blood of the person who has been diagnosed with it may put you at risk also. Also, if the person with the hep C virus bleeds, you need to be careful not to come in contact with their blood. Cleansing of blood or wounds is best done by wearing gloves. There is a lot of information online for the whole family on this subject if you do a search on it. Sorry to hear that you all have to deal with this and hope that you all as a family get the necessary help to cope with this. Do not lose hope though, a lot of research is being done and there are some treatments which have helped some too. I have also posted a link for your stepdad which may also help you as a group in understanding this virus and it's ramifications. Have included other links with information on it too. Hope this helps. Wishing you all the best.

the top two answers are correct.

however, you should test anyway because everyone has one risk factor for possibly acquiring hcv.....hcv is usually un noticed since the symptoms associated with hcv are thought of as something seperate....it can mimick the flu, firbro, depression, skin rashes...mono.....
nails done, peircings, dental visits, tattoos, toothbrushes and razors....ect...basically anything that might cut someone that has hcv infected blood on it can find the same exact way to enter your bloodstream.....the most well known factors for hcv infection are veterans and some children (because of the jetshot gun) and those that share drugs.

I am so sorry to hear of your step dad's illness. I wish you and your family the best. Although it is unikly that you would have had the necessary contact (blood or other body fluids), I think that the best thing to do would be to contact your dr. in the morning and get an appt. for Monday to get tested, just to settle your mind.
Blessings- dd
