times are different now and in most ways that is a good thing. the Rcc has had their downfalls and times when those within the running of it did things that were wrong and some things that were wrong by today''s standards. had they jumpedi n earlier to help during the holocust - what would the changes have been - we won't ever know. everyone makes mistakes - it's the bigger person who can stand up and say - i'm sorry.

i'm a female who has never felt ignored or segregated by the church - ever. women are held in the highest regard - gee just look at the position to which they hold our Dear Lady -Mary.

to stargazer with the hitler comment - we are taught to love the sinner are we not?! realize that JP2 also blessed and forgave the man who shot him and brought him to within an inch of his life. we should and are taught that sinners are in even a greater need of prayer.

If Catholicism is fake, then Protestantism does not stand of challenge. the 1st Protestant, Martin Luther, replaced right into a Catholic monk who had to alter some issues approximately Catholicism that he disagreed with. He later admitted that he under no circumstances had to flow away the Church, so as that could desire to tell you some thing suitable there. There are actually 35,000+ Protestant sects, denominations, and splinter communities -- maximum of which disagree with the different 34,999 and declare to be the "in basic terms" real church. How can all of them be the real church that Jesus based in the event that they might't agree on some thing so straightforward as baptism or Communion? in assessment, you could walk into any Roman Catholic church in any u . s . and hear the comparable teachings which you will possibly in the different Catholic church. sure, there have been renegades and dissenters, yet they are actually not allowed to cut up the Church with fake doctrines and erroneous ideals. So now, you tell me who's the fake church(es): the 35,000 branches of Protestantism who disagree approximately each little thing and yet declare to be the only real type of Christianity. . .or the only Holy Catholic and apostolic Church accepted via Jesus Christ and guarded via Him? Edit: the reason that various Catholics have not tried to describe what/who the Whore of Babylon and the Beast are is via the fact no person is conscious for helpful. I *do* comprehend this plenty: God isn't the only that is going around coming up concern and confusion. Jesus left us His peace, and He does not prefer you to tension plenty approximately this situation or the rest. i'm going to wish for you that God will calm your recommendations and heart so as which you will take excitement in the peace of Christ. God bless you!

1. Because he saw a past injustice that needed to be rectified.
2. Because he was a class act, and not above humbling himself in the name of his Lord and his Church to try to make things right.
3 Because he could recognize "humanity" next to "divinity".
4 Or maybe he just woke up one morning and said "WWJD???"

Starjumper: Karol Wojtyla (JP2's real name) was a teenager in Poland at the start of Hitler's campaign. During Hitler's campaign he was a seminary student in occupied Poland, having to hide that information for fear of his life. While secretly stuying in an underground seminary, he worked for a stone quarry. WW ll ended in 1945. Karol was not ordained a priest until 1946.
During his reign as Pope, he appologized to the Jewish people for things that were done by *the Church*
during WW ll.
Perhaps this caused you some confusion.
I will again refer to #1 and #2.
Perhaps you were mis-informed.

Anti-Catholics suffer from the mistaken notion that the Church includes only saints. For them sinners should always be outside its doors. What must be grasped is that the Catholic Church or any Church for that matter contains within itself knaves, and some of them obtain positions of responsibility. Paul and Christ himself warned us that there would be a few ravenous wolves among Church leaders (Acts 20,29; Matthew 1,15).

Jesus didn't choose Judas to betray him. But Judas was always free, and he used his freedom to allow Satan to enter into him, and by his betrayal Jesus was crucified and executed. But God foresaw this evil and used it to accomplish the ultimate good: the redemption of the world.

The point is, sometimes God's chosen ones betray him. That is a fact that we have to confront. If the early Christians had focused only on the scandal caused by Judas, the Church would have been finished before it even started to grow. Instead they recognized that you don't judge a movement by those who don't live it but by those who do. Rather than focusing on the betrayer, they focused on the other eleven on account of whose work, preaching, miracles, and love for Christ we are here today. It is on account of the other eleven that Christianity is alive and well today!

For the same reason, it is on account of the good popes, priests and lay people that the Catholic Church is what it is today. Christ has indeed kept his promise to be with his Church till the end of the age.

May the Lord's peace be with you!

Well, what makes up the Catholic church?... PEOPLE, human beings like u and me, there were plenty of great people like Pope John Paul the Great (II) & Mother Theresa, and plenty of bad people too, just like the leaders of anything else in history. I guess they're entitled to make mistakes too, aren't they? See it's the good, intelligent people like John Paul the Great that have to apologize for the mistakes people made years before them, tell me that's not sad! It's people like him that represent what the Catholic church was meant to be like. It's not the church itself, its the people that make it up which makes it what it is.

God has always had a habit of elevating liars, murderers, cheaters, and even ordinary thugs, to higher callings, in both the old testament, and the new.

The same applies to the men who govern the church.

That's what grace and salvation is all about.

The church belongs to Christ, and it is the presence of Jesus that makes the Catholic Church holy ... not men.

The Faith is perfect, but people are not, not even the Pope. His apology was a huge lesson for all the faithful in humility and forgiveness. By doing what he did we are taken one step closer to healing, to Christ. Makes me love being Catholic.

God bless.

The church is made up of people, and people are fallible. The best catholics (or any people) can do is to strive to do what's right. And that includes apologizing and changing when appropriate.

2007-03-23 11:15:01 · answer #9 · answered by Kris 4 · 5 0

Wouldn't the apology only add to the greatness. He stood up and said the church wasn't perfect and we are sorry.

Are you telling me you know of a perfect church. Not if there are humans attending it.

He said sorry and you are angry at that?

Pride.....I think religion is great in general. I like many denominations. If you don't think your church is great, why not? Shouldn't you think the teaching of Jesus is great.

Your example is another reason why the Catholic Church is so great. We are not afraid to admit that we are sinners and have made terrible mistakes in the past. Jesus choose Apostles who were not perfect and who were sinners. Jesus continues to pick imperfect people so that the glory of God can live through them.
