First off who says there is just one God? If you read the book of Genesis, god is either schizophrenic or there are two of them with opposing agendas.
First off God wants Adam and Eve to be submissive?
Is this not slavery? What happened to free will?
God gets upset and throws them out of the garden of Eden and as a parting gift he cloths them and gives them domain over all the animals of the earth?
It sounds like there are two opposing forces here, one teaching and the other dominating.
If you want the truth about Adam and Eve, read the Sumerian book of creation, the torah and Bible are based on this book written in 6000BCE, 4000 years before the Bible and 2000 years before the Torah.
IF you seek, you shall find the truth in all.
You may not like what you find, because all you have been taught is a myth translated by men with miss interpretations
throughout time to conform to the language it has been translated into.
Peace

ur question made me think alot and to read this part again and i came out with one conclusion,, which is:
if there was no tree like that thus adam and eve has no well to do anything except living as God wants them to,, that why there was a must that they have something they are forbidden 2 do,, and in this case it was the tree so they have to choose ,, they had the option of listening 2 God and not eat from it and the option of not to.. thus they have free well.. if there was no tree,, thus they have no options of choosing anything but God's well.... i hope u understand what i mean,,,

It was the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil and it was there so that there would be something in the garden that was not allowed. It hearkens back to free will and choice. If all things were allowed, then there is no option to choose wrongly. God didn't want a bunch of robots. Those are probably pretty easy to make for Him. He wanted children with whom to have a relationship. He wanted Adam and Eve to choose to love Him because He loved them and not because they had no other options.

God wanted them to eat the fruit. No question about it. You don't put candy in front of children, make a big issue of it and then go away expecting them to not eat it. God made Adam & Eve in his own image so he'd have known what to expect.
Of course it's only a myth.

Eating the fruit is symbolic of knowing the difference between right and wrong- sorta like finding out that there really are consequences to your choices.
God gave us all free-will, the ability to make choices for our own lives.
I personally don't like the word "sin". I think what "carry their sins" means is that we ALL choose our own paths in life and that comes with consequences for each of us, depending on our choices.

It was a matter of obedience.....He gave them a simple instruction..nothing too hard to do..just an instruction..but they chose to listen to someone other than their Father. Yes, there have been repercussions down through the ages..but, since satan came onto this earth, it is he who has set about encouraging us to disobey God. All God wants are loyal and loving children....how many of us are truly that? Yet He has made a way for us to have our slate made clean. God tried several times to get rid of all that sin..the flood was just one example. But even those people who went into the ark finally succumbed to satans wiles and sin came back. Satan is responsible for sin..but it is up to us who we will look to and follow..we must resist satan and sin less.

I can not think of a good reason for either of those.
I want my children to have knowledge - especially about good and evil. Without that they will be incapable of reasonable and ethical thought and will be tricked by the first talking snake that walks by.
Also, the concept that we can inherit sin from our ancestors is just pain ... unreasonable. Consider the concept of finding a person guilty of a crime and then punishing not only that person but all their children and childrens-children and childrens-childrens-childrens for all time? Is that ethical behavior on the part of the person dealing out the punishment? I think not.

They ate from the fruit because God gave them a choice. How can that be control? Adam was the first Adam. Jesus was the second. Adam couldn't save us, but Jesus can - that's why we don't have to pay for Adams (and our) sins.

It's all part of the Plan of Happiness... Him giving them a commandment to follow (or not follow) was the first step in agency on the earth...(We had agency in the premortal existance as we all chose to come to earth). He ultimately knew what would happen, they would eat, be cast out, procreate and populate the earth. It was a "sin" so we would need a Savior because no one on earth would "not" sin. He wanted us all to come to earth to gain a body, have mortal experiences, prove our worth, so that eventually we can become like Him. He wants that for all His children, to become perfected like Him.
I am LDS (mormon) and We believe man will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam's transgression.

The fruit was the forbidden fruit and that is why God didn't want Adam and Eve to eat it but the devil had to put his two cents into it and start trouble but the reason why he didn't want them to eat it is because its was the forbidden fruit. The reason why we have to carry their sins is because the screwed up and God punished them and that is why we are not motral and why we aren't perfect. Plus he lets us have our own minds and not controls us.
