My kids eat mussels mouniere - Make sure the mussels are cleaned thoroughly - if you put them in a large bowl/pan with cold water and add small handful of oats - the mussels will eat this then spit out along with any grit/sand, takes about 30 minutes or so. Add a couple of shallots finely chopped with 1 crushed clove of garlic and fried with a little olive oil for a couple of minutes. Add your mussels - but do make sure that you throw away any opened ones that won't shut when tapped. Also add about 150ml white wine and let the mussels cook for about 3-4 minutes, shake the pan with a lid on a couple of times. Remove the lid and about 50ml of double cream, pop the lid back and toss again. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and serve with fresh crusty bread. Now that the mussels are cooked make sure they are now open - any closed ones throw away - they are dead and if eaten will give you or your kids a really bad stomach!!

Mussels and seafood are fine for kids to eat. Just make sure that you prepare them properly, i.e before cooking, give any mussels that are open sharp tap, if they close, they're ok to cook, if they stay open discard them. Any that havn't opened should also be discarded.
As for mackeral, its one of the most healthiest foods that your family can eat. Its an Oil-rich fish, rich in unsaturated fats containing Omega-3 so valuable for health. The FSA(Food Standards Agency)recommends that men and boys, and women past child bearing age, can eat up to four portions of oily fish a week. Women of child bearing age, including pregnant and breastfeeding women, and girls, can eat up to two portions of oily fish a week.
If your kids love fish and seafood let them have it, I only wish I could persuade my kids to eat mackeral!

Mussels are okay, but a little weird for some kids. But health-wise they're fine in moderation, as is all seafood.

As far as I know they are fine, my kids love them.
You obviously don't give them the ones that haven't opened or they will be ill.

i don't think taste is going to be an issue....they're delicious. but, they are a bit chewy so be aware of possible choking or something like that.
